'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' Release Date: Naughty Dog's Title Delayed, to Launch in April 2016 in North America

"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" developer Naughty Dog announced recently that the game's release date will be pushed a month further. The developer explains the reason for the delay and provides the new release date in a blog post.

Neil Druckmann, creative director, and Bruce Straley, game director, made the announcement at Sony's PlayStation Blog on Wednesday, Dec. 23.

The post started by sharing the good news that "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is coming along well. The developer is wrapping up productions for the game, which is shaping up to become the proper send-off for the game's protagonist, Nathan Drake. "Uncharted 4" is expected to be the last game of the series.

"The bad news is that we need a bit more time to finish the game so that it meets our standards and vision," stated Druckmann and Straley in the blog post. "Let's cut to the chase, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has a new release date in North America of April 26, 2016."

The developer said that although they are working hard to meet their promise and finish development of the game in a timely manner, they found several key sequences that needed more resources to be really finished. Naughty Dog weighed its options before finally deciding that the best road to take is to extend development schedule and delay the game's release date. This extension should provide the "Uncharted 4" team with enough time to give Nathan Drake's final chapter and Naughty Dog's "largest Uncharted game to date" a few more polish passes.

"Pushing the date is not an easy choice, and we wouldn't do it if we didn't feel in our hearts it's the best course of action for the game," Druckmann and Straley explained.

This is the second delay for the game. It was originally expected to release in 4Q 2015 before it was moved to March 18, 2016.
