USA Swimming Team for 2016 Rio Olympics: Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin Among Notable Swimmers; Complete List of Atheletes, Events and Schedule
Olympic swimming events have always been the cornerstone of USA's gold haul since 1988 and the pools hasn't dried up for the Americans since then. The 2016 Rio Olympics present another opportunity for a good medal standing, thanks to dominating performances from notable members of the current squad.
Needless to say, Michael Phelps is already pegged to be one of the greatest Olympians ever with a total of 22 medals, 18 of them being gold. He is already a 31 year-old veteran but is still the best gold contender for three events this year including the 200m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly and 200m IM.
Ironically, not from another country but fellow American Ryan "Reezy" Lochte is the one to challenge Phelps for the Individual Medley event in Rio. Lochte has won 11 Olympic medals with five gold.

Meanwhile, Katie Ledecky rocked the swimming world in the 2012 Summer Olympics when she won gold in 800m freestyle at a very young age of 15. Ledecky then shattered the record four more times since London.
Another world record holder for Team USA is Missy Franklin who snatched five medals (four gold) in 2012 London Olympics, breaking the world record in the 200m backstroke during the process.
