'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' New Trailer Shows the Future Is Not Boring

In most science fiction films, the setting is always depicted as an advanced realm filled with the usual out-of-this-world technology lacking in natural color as well as ghastly creatures prowling everywhere. In Luc Besson's "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," however, the future is presented in ways no one imagined and portrayed before.

The latest trailer for the movie shows the same futuristic elements but has added features that are very enticing. With beautifully illustrated clouds, vivid terrains and life-like beaches, the world where the film takes place harmoniously combines both progressive machinery and delightful natural scenery. Even the alien lifeforms are relatable with distinguishable facial expressions, making it immersive.

As far as the plot goes, more of the story is revealed without spoiling too much. Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) arrive at Alpha, a place where all races share knowledge and co-exist peacefully. An unknown threat aims to dismantle the utopian community, and so the two must find who this is before it's too late.

It can be recalled that Besson tweeted a short teaser during his birthday, telling everyone that a new trailer is about to come before the month ends. True enough, the hype went up, and obviously for good reason as audiences are treated to another CGI-filled sequence, but this time with a little bit more knowledge of what the movie is about.

The upcoming sci-fi film is a dream come true for Besson. He mentioned on the official website that creating the movie version has always been a vision of his, but wanted to see if the technology can keep up with the demands. After seeing "Avatar," he got inspired and went with it.

"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" is set to inspire and bedazzle in cinemas on July 21, 2017.
