Vanessa Lachey, formerly Vanessa Minnillo, has been confirmed to be pregnant with her and her husband Nick Lachey's first child.

"She started to feel a little different, not herself," explained Nick Lachey while speaking with "Live! With Kelly" host Kelly Ripa on Monday.

"So she went to the store, got a pregnancy test, and it came back positive. So we are having a baby!" exclaimed the 38-year-old former 98 Degrees singer and dad-to-be.

While on the morning television show, Lachey added that the news has him very excited.

"I've had a chance to do a lot of great things in my career and my life but this is one thing that, more than any other, I look forward to," explained Lachey. "The fact that it's actually here, it's overwhelming."

While is it too early to tell if their child is a boy or a girl, Lachey said he and his wife want to find out.

"We definitely want to know," the singer told Ripa. "I can't take the knowledge that someone out there knows, but I don't know. It's like watching a sports game on TiVo."

His wife, 31-year-old television personality and former beauty queen, has not yet commented on her pregnancy.

Lachey was married to Jessica Simpson in 2002, but the two divorced in 2006. He married Minnillo on July 15, 2011 after meeting her on the set of his music video for "What's Left of Me."

Their wedding took place on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands in front of 25 close friends and family, but the ceremony was filmed and later televised on TLC.

Lachey is a sports fan and on the entertainment council of Feeding America, a hunger-relief organization.

His ex-wife, Simpson, is also expecting a child with fiancée Eric Johnson. Her pregnancy was widely speculated by the media ahead of her October announcement. Simpson's pregnancy has attracted criticism as the singer continues to wear sky-high heels while heavily pregnant.

The 9-months-pregnant Simpson responded to the public's scorn of her footwear on Twitter last week, writing, "We are loving Laguna … and yes, I'm wearing flip flops!"
