According to the ESA the increase of people playing games took away time spent watching television or going to the movies as 49% said they watch less TV than they did three years ago.

Interestingly enough, there are an average of two gamers per household, and 51% have at least two consoles or more.

2012 was a big year for gaming with the industry garnering $21 billion in sales. However, according to Variety, those numbers are down. With the upcoming next generation systems, the numbers are expected to go up, with a profit being made in 2014.

The study now concludes that the smart phones and devices are a serious contender as gaming platforms.

36% play games on their smartphone while 25% play on a wireless device.

The highest selling game of the year was Call of Duty: Black Ops II by Activison. It made $1 billion in 15 days, and $500,000 in the first day.

Next year's stats could be drastically different with the sales of the next gen systems such as Xbox One, PS4, and the Wii U factoring into play. Also, devices and smartphones will be another year advanced, with many possibilities becoming available.

It is only a matter of time before those gaming percentage numbers go up.
