'Vikings' Season 3 Release Date 2015: Kevin Durand to Join Cast, Upcoming Season to See 'Dawn of the Viking Age'

"Vikings" creator Michael Hirst and the show's cast were at Comic-Con San Diego to share some news about season 3. Hirst was joined by cast members Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen, Alexander Ludwig, and History Channel executive Julian Hobbs.

Standen revealed that one of the show's cast members will die during season 3.

"We just lost one of our favorite people. Ludwig confirmed this and said, 'Someone's going to die,'" he said. They did not reveal which character will meet his or her demise in the show's upcoming season.

Another thing to look forward to is the Vikings' invasion of Paris. Hirst said that the raid marks season 3's "huge upgrading in the Vikings' endeavors."

"This is the dawn of what will become known as the Viking age," he said.

Meanwhile, the crowd at Comic-Con showed their appreciation for Lagertha, Winnick's character, who is touted to be a good female role model.

In season 2, it can be recalled that Lagertha is no longer with her abusive husband, and Winnick revealed that her character may be looking for love.

"Lagertha is a free woman," said Winnick to Zap2it. "She can do whatever she wants. She doesn't have a husband, she understands her sexuality and she knows who she is. She's a free woman and you can see her explore that in season 3."

In other news, "Lost" alum Kevin Durand will be joining "Vikings" in its upcoming season. He will play the role of Wanderer, described as "a mysterious man who is not what he seems."

"Vikings" season 3 will premiere on the History Channel in 2015.
