During the bloody season 2 finale of the show, it can be recalled that King Horik plotted to murder Ragnar and his entire family. The king thinks that Floki and Siggy are supporting his plans for Ragnar, but when he puts his plan into action, he soon learns that Ragnar had prior knowledge about it, thus, he was well prepared to fight. Ragnar kills Horik and much of his family, and he, along with Bjorn, obtains Horik's sword, thus making him the new king.

With this new development, fans are wondering what will happen now that Ragnar is king. Executive producer Michael Hirst revealed that the next step for Ragnar is to attack Paris.
