'Vikings' Season 4 Plot News, Spoilers: Will King Ragnar Return to England in the Next Chapter?

Right before the great raid of Paris took place, the recently-finished season of the hit historical TV drama series "Vikings" also featured the storyline involving the Northmen's settlement pact with King Ecbert (Linus Roache) in Wessex.

Fans may remember it didn't turn out well when the English monarch decided to annihilate the Norse people who chose to remain and till the land given to them.

Michael Hirst, the series writer, teased the possibility that the upcoming fourth season will tackle on the Wessex settlement issue.

"Ecbert is one of my favorite characters, and Linus Roache is one of my favorite actors," Hirst told Entertainment Weekly. "He brings a lot to the show. So, of course, I have no intention of letting that world go. There is unfinished business. It's always on Ragnar's mind. One day he's going to go back and try and settle it. Someone has to pay for the destruction of the settlement."

Followers may also remember the intimate moment King Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and Queen Kwenthrith shared during their time in England. With his return, he may also found out that he has a son with the queen. However, the brave warrior-king might doubt the legitimacy of her claims.

"My best guess is that it is Ragnar's child," Hirst continued. "The skepticism was justified, but that child will be an important child."

Speaking further about Season 4, Hirst teased that a showdown between brothers Ragnar and Rollo (Clive Standen) should also be expected.

"I think we can surmise that one of the big events of the new season is going to be a final reckoning between the brothers, on just a much bigger scale than the first time around," he said.

"Vikings" Season 4 is slated to return to History Channel sometime in 2016.
