'Viva La Madness' TV Series Cast News, Update: 'Transporter' Action Star Signed In For A Lead Role

Television entertainment is getting more and more interesting with the influx of big movie stars grabbing roles in small screen programs. Just this week, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter indicated J.J. Connolly's sequel to his hit crime novel, "Layer Cake," will be adapted to a TV series.

Titled "Viva La Madness," the THR article said that the project will be produced by Gaumont International Television, which in turn, announced that the lead role will be headlined by "The Transporter" star Jason Statham. It is yet to be determined if the Statham-led show will be set within the same universe with "Layer Cake," which was also brought to the big screen in 2004 and starred Daniel Craig. Several reports however speculated that it will have its own standalone adventure plot.

The show, which is still on the lookout for a network, will be executive produced by Steven Chasman, Statham, and Connolly, who is also set to write for the series.

Citing the words of Gaumont International TV CEO, Katie O'Connell Marsh, the show is described as "a volatile cocktail of action and comedy that only J.J. Connolly can create."

"Jason Statham, known for his roles in the Transporter trilogy, 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,' Snatch, 'The Bank Job,' as well as the recent 'Furious 7' and 'Spy,' brings such strength and credibility to his characters but also has an effortless shade of vulnerability that gives him so much dimension on screen," Marsh meanwhile spoke about the actor (via THR).

The book tackles on an anonymous character who, despite his laidback life in the Caribbean, is itching for the high and excitement that his past criminal life had offered. Branded as a wanted man back home, he soon joined up with two London-based gangsters, Sonny King and Roy "Twitchy" Burns.
