'Walking Dead' Season 5 Air Date, Spoilers: Rick Grimes Pushed to His Absolute Limit, New Crazy Walkers to Appear

Fifth season of the popular post-apocalyptic horror drama "The Walking Dead" will return in the small screens with its premiere episode entitled "No Sanctuary" scheduled to air this coming Sunday, Oct. 12, at 10 p.m. on AMC.

While fans are quite a bit disappointed with how the previous season seemed to veer away from the main character, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), the upcoming chapter will now return the spotlight to the primary protagonist.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Walking Dead" comic book author Robert Kirkman revealed some things about the upcoming season.

"This is Rick Grimes being pushed to his absolute limit. And if you think you've seen that before, you haven't. And the Rick Grimes that comes out of this is really going to shock people. We're definitely going to be bringing things to another level," he explained.

"And the anticipation for the next season after this finale is unfortunately going to be a lot more heightened than it has been between any other season. So it's going to be a rough summer for 'Walking Dead' fans waiting for us to come back in the fall," the showrunner added.

As with new characters and villains, Season 5 will see a load of "crazy walkers." Speaking with ComicBook.com, Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl on the show, dished out some information.

"We've done some stuff this season that far exceeds even the burn walkers, the crispy guys -- and the well walker, the moss walker that's trapped under the tree -- I feel like those were all sort of appetizers to some of the stuff we've done [in Season 5]. I love putting those little things in there," executive producer Greg Nicotero added.

Zap2It also revealed in their spoiler report that Andrew J. West's Gareth, who came out in Season 4 as the mysterious boss of the Terminus, is now promoted as series regular. He will be the show's main "real" villain.
