'We Are Humanoid Monster' Air Date, Spoilers: Humanoids Want to Be Humans in 2017 Revival of Classic Gag Series
Humanoids try to blend in with humans in the upcoming short-form Japanese gag anime series "Oretacha Youkai Ningen (We Are Humanoid Monster)," which is premiering in October.
Humans may have always been fascinated by monsters, but who knew monsters could actually feel the same? In "We Are Humanoid Monster," three bug-eyed monsters named Bem, Bera, and Bera will come to the human world and attempt to pass for humans in an unnamed progressive Japanese city.
Their everyday adventures and interactions with the human society often lead to some really hilarious results. Will they ever find a way to become more human as they spend more days in the city, or are they bound to fail with each desperate attempt? What new information will they learn from spending time with humans and how will this affect their desire to be just like them?

The series is based on a 1960's classic cartoon titled "Youkai Ningen Bem." It will be directed by Yuzuru Adachi with animation done by DLE. Hip-hop singer DOTAMA will reportedly perform the opening theme, titled "Oretacha Ningen Yokai! ~Ningen Mezashite Nani ga Warui~ (We Are Humanoid Monster! What's Wrong with Aiming to be Human?)."
The song, which was composed by Tanaka Masabumi, will also feature lyrics by Daiichi Douga Bungeibu and musical arrangement done by Quviokal.
The series is part of the franchise's 50th-anniversary project and is meant for the purpose of adapting the old "Youkai Ningen Bem" into a version that will fit into the 21st-century scene. There are also plans for yet another project to commemorate the upcoming broadcast anniversary of the classic series, but details about this will be revealed at a later time.
"We Are Humanoid Monsters" premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 11:30 p.m. JST on Tokyo MX. It will also air on BS11 starting on Monday, Oct. 9, late night at 2 a.m. JST.
