What Is the Armor of God?

April 22, 2008|12:48 pm

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Ephesians 6:11

Do you know what armor is? Maybe you've seen suits of armor that soldiers used to wear into battle. Police officers today also wear armor to protect them–bullet proof vests and helmets. Firemen wear helmets and heavy coats and boots as protective armor.

If you know Jesus as your Savior, God has given you armor to protect you in your battle against Satan. You can't see this armor–it's invisible. But it is described in the Bible in Ephesians 6:13-17. The "helmet of salvation" protects your mind. The "breastplate of righteousness" protects your heart so that you will do what's right. The "belt of truth" helps you to learn God's Word and to tell the truth. The "shoes of the Gospel of peace" help you stand firm in your battle with Satan. The "shield of faith" protects you from Satan's attacks that would cause you to doubt God. The "sword of the Spirit" is the Word of God. It is your weapon against Satan.

The armor God has given you will never wear out or break. In the next few days, we will talk more about what each piece of the armor means and how it can help you.
