Who Do You Trust?

1 Samuel 14:1 NIV

One day Jonathan son of Saul said to the young man bearing his armor, "Come, let's go over to the Philistine outpost on the other side." But he did not tell his father.

Jonathan was the complete opposite of his father. He was a strong man, but his strength came from God. He knew it, and he acknowledged it with everything he said and did. So, when he saw that there was an opportunity for victory against the Philistines, he took action. And he didn't tell Saul. Why? Probably because he knew his father very well. He knew how weak his father's spiritual condition was. He knew Saul well enough to realize that if Saul knew what Jonathan was about to do, Saul would stop him. But Jonathan saw an opportunity for God to have a victory. So he went ahead with what he knew God wanted him to do, trusting God rather than his own father.

When you have a decision to make, do you depend on what God has to say about it or on what your friends and family say? Wise counsel is important and is something we all need to seek at one time or another. But what about when that counsel isn't so wise? What if it goes against what God is telling you to do? You study and pray and meditate on God's Word and are convinced you are headed in the direction He is leading you. But everyone around you is saying just the opposite, leading you in a direction that you know is off the path God has given you. Like Jonathan, it all boils down to one thing - who are you going to trust?
