Windows 10 OS Release Date for Phones Confirmed for Arrival After Desktop Versions

Despite the rumors, it was confirmed that Microsoft will not be launching their highly anticipated Windows 10 OS for smartphones this summer and that they will do so instead right after the Desktop version is released.

The Vice President of the Redmond, Wa-based tech giant, Joe Belfiore, confirmed the news during a media event held in San Francisco. At the said Build Conference, he said the Windows 10 firmware for Phone won't be taking place "until after the desktop version of the OS is launched."

Phone Arena speculated that the said mobile Operating System might see the light this fall which is in fact, in line with the arrival of the purported new Lumia devices.

Belfiore also added that Microsoft will be releasing the Windows 10 features by waves and not in one sitting. The messaging app, which offers built-in Skype connectivity as well as the extensions for the new Microsoft Browser, won't be included in the first day launching of the OS.

"There are devices and features that will come not on launch date, but following it," said Belfiore. "From the device view, our main focus is to kick off the Windows 10 launch wave with a great launch on the PC. You should expect that the other devices — phone, HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub — will be staggered, probably not on the same date as the PC."

As for the status of completion, Belfiore said that they are now in the "finishing up phase of the project" and that they are already rolling out builds to their insiders.

"We're on track for this summer, but you should definitely have this notion in mind of Windows as a service," he added.
