Windows 8 Release Date Slated for October?

There is a possibility that Microsoft could be planning on releasing Windows 8 in Oct. of this year, according to windows8news.com.

Although no true launch date has been announced by Microsoft, a recent comment made by Windows Business Group public relations director Janelle Poole hinted at the possibility of an Oct. release.

"We haven't talked about the release date and we generally don't," said Poole. "We are talking milestone to milestone, so for us right now we're talking about the next milestone being the consumer preview happening in late February."

She also hinted to the possible release date by speaking about when Windows 7 launched.

"One of the things that I think is a good guideline though is we've always said that Windows releases come around about every three years and this year will be three years in October since we launched Windows 7," she added. So I think that's a good guideline to consider."

This would make the software launching in October be predictable, possible and right on schedule. Windows 7 also arrived on the scene prematurely due to a series of extremely stable betas and release candidates.

Microsoft will be wanting to take advantage of the tablet boom as soon as possible since their new operating system is specifically geared towards touch-screen devices.

The tablet market is currently dominated by iOS. Apple's iPad has had its grips on that arena since its release in 2010. Android certainly has some impressive devices available in that market as well including the Samsung Galaxy Tab line, ASUS Transformer Prime Motorola XOOM and many others.

With these strong competitors already out there, Microsoft will have to deliver something different and more efficient in order to solidify its space in the touch-screen area.
