'Wonder Woman' Movie News: Release Slated for 2017, Rumored to Be Set in 1920s

Warner Bros. has confirmed that a female superhero will be getting her own standalone movie. It was reported that Wonder Woman, who was famously portrayed on television by Lynda Carter, will be having her own movie in 2017 after her debut on "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Wonder Woman, also known as Princess Diana of Themyscira, will be played by Gal Gadot, and according to Cinemablend, the actress has inked a three-picture deal with the studios to portray the role of the Amazonian princess. At the time of her signing, it was confirmed that Gadot will first appear on the "Batman vs. Superman'"movie, followed by a solo Wonder Woman film and another appearance in a Justice League movie. However, Bleeding Cool reports that Gadot might have three solo movies wherein Wonder Woman is seen going through the world from 1920 up to the modern times.

According to the website, the first movie will be a period piece set in the 1920s in which the Amazonian warrior princess leaves her home and finds herself in a world where women have just gotten the right to vote. More plot details were mentioned on the report, which claims that the first half will be set on Paradise Island, where warring Amazonian factions are fighting for the throne. A man comes into the island and asks the Amazons for help. This is when the princess heads out to help him and starts her string of adventures.

The sequel will allegedly take place during World War II, and the third movie set in the modern time period of "Dawn of Justice." If the reports are true, then Gadot's Wonder Woman could either be aging very slowly or is an immortal. If given the right treatment, the films could be very compelling and are sure to please audiences worldwide.

"Wonder Woman" will be in theaters on June 23, 2017.
