'Wonder Woman' Movie News, Update: 'Breaking Bad' Director and Producer Confirmed to Direct

Another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. Just a few weeks ago, there were rumors indicating that "Breaking Bad" director and producer Michelle MacLaren was in talks to spearhead the making of Wonder Woman standalone film as part of the DC and Warner Bros.' shared movie universe.

Just recently, news has confirmed that MacLaren has officially signed on to not only direct, "but also formally develop the film," ScreenCrush reported.

MacLaren will be working close with writers to fully bring the iconic heroine to the big screen in her first solo movie. The well-known TV show helmer has officially penned the contract following months of meetings with Warner Bros, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The Babadook" director Jennifer Kent and "Homeland" (Showtime) co-executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter were also rooted for the project.

"either of these choices would have made for interesting and exciting prospects, but MacLaren's name has popped up as a favorite to direct in many articles since WB first announced the project," THR stated.

Aside from the AMC hit TV series, MacLaren has also taken directorial gigs for other major titles like "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead." The Gal Gadot-led film will be the first big screen directorial job for MacLaren.

"Wonder Woman" is planned to be the first of the proposed trilogy solo films based on the Amazonian superhero.

The first of which, as reported, will take place in her own Paradise Island. Fans will found out that the Amazonians, in this time, are in chaos as two warring factions vie for supremacy.

A mysterious man will then break into their realm seeking help. This will take Diana to a WW II-era America. She will also discover that women, during these times, are not treated as equals.

"Wonder Woman" opens in theaters on June 23, 2017.
