WWE SmackDown News and Update: After Leg Injury, Eva Marie Use Wardrobe Malfunction as Alibi; Referee Cancels Match

For two weeks in a row, Eva Marie successfully avoided WWE SmackDown with classic alibis. First, during the home-cooked Inaugural Women's Championship, the red diva evaded because of an "injury". Then on Tuesday, "wardrobe malfunction" made the referee call off the supposed-to-be rematch against Becky Lynch.

Last week, Eva Marie and Becky are supposed to brawl in SmackDown Live; but to the dismay of WWE fans, Eva Marie left the ring "limping" even before the starting bell. Eva Marie climbed the second rope during the introductory fanfare and leapt two feet from the ring platform. She then started complaining that she "injured" her left hamstring in the process.

Then last Tuesday, the rematch was set again on SmackDown. However, during the opening call, the strap of Eva Marie's upper garment snapped. The red-haired diva had a very "surprised" reaction and the referee immediately called for a towel to cover Eva Marie's upper torso.

Becky Lynch voiced out her frustration in the post-fight interview about how tired she is of going back into the locker room without a fight. She then called for a replacement opponent, prompting Alexa Bliss to answer and climb the ring for her main roster debut. Lynch rained her irritation to Bliss, resulting in a see-saw match between the two protagonists.

As the Lynch – Bliss match wore on, Eva Marie came out again and yelled that she is ready to face Lynch. This sudden interruption caught Lynch's attention which Bliss quickly took advantage of. Using the momentum to outmaneuver Lynch, Bliss won the match.

Follow-up interview

Meanwhile, during a follow-up interview with Daniel Bryan, Eva Marie said that what happened during the past two weeks and her overdue debut is making her feel terrible. She also clarified that although fans are getting frustrated, everything that happened is an "accident" that can't be avoided. Eva Marie also assured fans that she will make a spectacular show next week against any opponent to make up for two weeks' worth of wasted opportunity.

WWE is clearly making Eva Marie's segment of "getting into the ring then withdraw in the last minute" an instant attraction, since anticipation about what she can really do inside the ring is building up in social media right now. There are several forums as well where fans suggested what ridiculous excuse she should pull off next time, while other friendlier sites are asking if she will indeed make her in-ring debut on SmackDown Live.
