'X-Men: Apocalypse' Movie Release Date, Cast News: New Nightcrawler Character, Quicksilver Returning?

"X-Men: Apocalypse" has got a new Nightcrawler: Kodi Smit-McPhee was recently cast to play the young Nightcrawler in the coming sequel, according to reports. "X-Men" director Bryan Singer made the announcement through his Instagram Feb.18.

Kodi Smit-McPhee takes the place of Alan Cummings who played Nightcrawler in "X-Men 2," and rightly so because the role requires a younger actor to play it, according to a report on IGN. Nightcrawler or Kurt Wagner is a mutant who can teleport, has superhuman agility and "has adhesive hands and feet." He is known for his indigo-colored skin, pointed ears and a "prehensile tail."

Rumors are also abound as to whether actor Evan Peters will return to reprise his role as Quicksilver. Peters played the character during "X-Men: Days of Future Past," in the scene where he helps Wolverine and Charles Xavier break Magneto out of prison by using his super speed to take out four prison guards who tried to block their escape.

Peters was asked by I Am Rogue about his involvement in the sequel and his answer was: "I think so, yes. I assume it as well, but I don't know what I'm supposed to say and not to say."

The report continued by saying that his scene was "actually a huge reason for the film's success."

The line-up of confirmed cast members include newcomers like Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops. James MacAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their roles in the previous "X-Men" film. The film's supervillain, Apocalypse, will be played by Oscar Isaac.

This next installment of the "X-Men" movies is a sequel of the 2014 film "X-Men: Days of Future Past." It follows the "First Class" X-Men to the 1980s where they will be going against the most powerful mutant in the world, Apocalypse.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be shown on May 27, 2016.
