Windows 10 Release Date Event: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer to Talk Gaming

Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, will be present as a guest speaker at the upcoming Windows 10 press event at the Microsoft's Redmond campus on Jan. 21, 2015.

Next year's Windows 10 press event is a chance to give the industry a look at Microsoft's latest operating system and talk about their future direction or "next chapter." Spencer will be one among many guest speakers and department heads that will be speaking at the event.

The specific topics of discussion have yet to be revealed, but Spencer will reportedly be on hand to talk about "consumer experience."

Spencer also tweeted on Friday that the will the panel will focus on the future plans for Windows, and wrote that "it's time for us to talk about gaming on Windows."

Spencer, who became the head of Microsoft's Xbox branch back in March, oversees not just Xbox gaming projects but also all aspects of gaming in the company including PC gaming.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also said during Spencer's promotion as head of Xbox that his job was to bring more of the Xbox to all devices, PCs, phones and tablets.

Spencer has stressed several times that PC gaming is an important focus of Microsoft, and also said during the GDC held earlier this month that the he and the company were working to focus on Windows and PC gaming.

However, questions have been raised the past few months when Microsoft released little news on the future of gaming in their company, and Spencer explained that they were looking for the right place and the right time to talk about Windows.

"Windows and gaming on Windows is critical to Microsoft's success," he said during E3.

With the upcoming Windows 10 press event, gaming on Windows will most likely be finally addressed.
Other guest speakers present at the event are Microsoft Operating Systems Group senior leaders Spencer, Joe Belfiore and Terry Myerson, as well as company CEO Nadella.
