The Peru national team can book a ticket to the quarterfinals with a win against Ecuador. This was after thrashing Haiti in the Copa America Centenario Group B opener last Saturday.

La Blanquirroja, as a lot of fans are expecting, can only go as far as Paolo Guerrero can take them, at least on the offensive end. The Peruvian forward was instrumental in the team's first win against Haiti, where he scored the lone goal of the match.

Guerrero took home the Golden Boot award of the tournament back in 2011 and 2015, where Peru also finished third on both occasions. His goal against Haiti is his 27th career international goal, surpassing Teófilo Cubillas as the team's all-time leading scorer.

Ecuador on the Brink of Elimination

On the other hand, the Ecuador squad is fighting for their survival. Their scoreless draw against Brazil in their own version of the opener has given both teams a mere point. Considering the fact that Brazil is expected to top Haiti in the next game, they would need to salvage a win on Wednesday to stave off elimination.

The draw result against powerhouse team Brazil can also bode well for the La Tricolor campaign as the team was able to held their own against the eight-time champion. Ecuador has never won against Brazil in 13 meetings at the Copa America tournament. The Ecuadorian squad was able to earn the respect of the Brazilians.

"Ecuador played very well tactically," said Brazilian midfielder Renato Augusto. "They neutralised our strong points, they are a good team."
