Former Miss USA Rima Fakih Arrested for Drunk Driving

Former Miss USA Rima Fakih was arrested for drunk driving Saturday in Michigan after police found she was twice over the legal alcohol limit.

Fakih was arrested early Saturday morning in Highland Park and was charged with misdemeanor drunk driving. If convicted, Fakih could serve up to 93 days in jail and she could be ordered to do community service.

Just after the incident, the 2010 Miss USA tweeted: “Let’s clear things up now. I’m NOT in Michigan and I’m NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih.”

The tweet was later removed from her Twitter account.

On Sunday, Fakih's attorney Doraid Elder confirmed the arrest. He told People magazine that Fakih's record “has not a single blemish,” that she is “very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she’s in right now.”

"She is taking full responsibility," said the attorney. "She wants to apologize to everybody she let down."

Fakih was supposed to be the designated driver for her friend who was too drunk to drive. She then realized she was too inebriated to drive when she was pulled over by police.

In Michigan, a person's blood alcohol level must be over 0.08-percent to be convicted of drunken driving. Fakih blew a .20, according to WXYZ.

The beauty pageant contestant was born in Lebanon and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was eight. She won the Miss USA title on May 2010 and was the first Miss Michigan to claim the crown. Fakih was also the first Arabic woman to win Miss USA, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Fakih is currently training to be a wrestler for the WWE.
