Huawei Honor 7i Release Date, Specs Rumors: Android Smartphone With 'Sliding Camera' to Roll Out Aug. 20?

Last week, an unknown Huawei device appeared on China's TENAA website. For people who have been checking news, rumors and other updates lately, this means that the device has already been certified by the proper Chinese authorities, and should be ready for launch in the country.

According to a report by Phone Arena, a Weibo posting hinted that the upcoming Huawei smartphone will be called the Honor 7i, and it should be announced on Aug. 20.

Interestingly, the teaser post on Weibo included this statement "You Can Change The Vision Together," which just confirms the presence of the sliding camera module on top of the device.

Dubbed as Huawei ATH-AL00 based on the TENAA leaked listing, the Honor 7i will have a midrange version, as well as a semi-flagship edition. Based on the report, the device will have the option for 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in memory, and 3GB of RAM with a 32GB internal storage. The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 615 chipset with a big.LITTLE octa-core CPU, plus Adreno 405 GPU to take care of graphics processing.

However, what separates the upcoming Android device from other midrangers in the market is its sliding camera. In the previous report by GSM Arena, the primary camera and the selfie camera in front are placed on the same module. The selfie shooter, however, does not appear in front because it is concealed.

Owners of the Huawei Honor 7i would reportedly be able to take pictures the usual way using the primary camera at the back. However, in order to use the selfie cam, they have to click a dedicated button to let the module slide out from the phone's body. The front shooter appears to boast a dual LED flash.

Based on rumors, proposed pricing for the device ranges from $322 to $403.
