NBC and Golf Channel host prestigious tournament for the first time

For the first time in its 145 year history, the British Open Championship will not be shown on ABC and ESPN. Instead the prestigious tournament will be shown on NBC and its sister station Golf Channel.

The broadcast team for NBC and the Golf Channel will consist of long time duo of Johnny Miller and Dan Hick, with NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico joining them. Tirico was previously with ESPN doing Open commentating, however he recently signed with NBC for sports commentating amongst other duties.

Favorites to win

Jason Day

Day is currently the world number one player on the Official World Golf Rankings. Day has had moderate success at the British Open, placing fourth place in last year's tournament. While Day has several tournament wins on the tour this year, he has yet to place in the top 4 in any major tournament in 2016.

Day place tied for tenth at the Maters and eighth at the US Open.

Dustin Johnson

Johnson is the hottest golfer on the tour right now. Johnson's rise in the rankings to No. 2 has been sparked by a win at this year's US Open where Johnson was able to erase a three-stroke deficit entering the final round.

After his win at the US Open Johnson's hot streak continued with a victory at the Bridgestone Invitational, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year as only fifty players are invited per year.

Zack Johnson

Zack Johnson (no relation to Dustin) is last year's champion and would like to be the first back-to-back champion since Tiger Woods in 2006 and 2007.
