Father of 'Reincarnated' WWII Pilot Says Christian Faith Undeterred

By Josh Kimball|Christian Post Reporter

The father of a boy who he believes his son was a World War II fighter pilot in “a past life” says his Christian faith has remained in tact despite his new belief while his wife says the situation has “enhanced my belief system.”

“I am a Christian, and this has only reaffirmed the strength of my Christian faith,” Bruce C. Leininger said in an appearance Monday on Good Morning America.

“It’s a new reality,” he added.

Around nine years ago, Leininger’s then two-year-old son, James, began to have recurring nightmares of a plane crash that got worse and more frequent as time went on.

"I'd wake him up and he'd be screaming," Andrea Leininger told "Primetime Live" co-anchor Chris Cuomo back in 2004. She said when she asked her son what he was dreaming about, he would say, "Airplane crash on fire; little man can't get out."

Over time, James' parents say he revealed extraordinary details about the life of a former fighter pilot – details that eventually convinced even Bruce Leininger, who originally thought the idea of James remembering a past life was “baloney.”

“Him (James) giving us the name of the ship, the name of the man he flew with, the location where he was shot down, and then three years of hard work verifying all the details right down to an eyewitness account seeing the face of James M. Huston Jr. (the WWII fighter pilot) being shot down, describing the way the plane hit, matching exactly what James described. The overwhelming details were there,” Leininger recalled Monday. “I had to give up the battle.”

Though the concept of reincarnation seemingly clashes with verses in the Bible such as Hebrews 9:27, which states how a man “is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” Leininger said the events of the past few years have given him a “much deeper understanding of the fact that our spirit has an eternal life.”

“And we really don’t know. We still have to go on faith on what happens,” he stated. “He (James)’s just an example of a spirit deciding to rejoin us.”

Today, eleven-year-old James doesn’t remember the dreams that he had shared as a little boy – a common occurrence, according to those who have come across cases like his.

But with the events still fresh in their minds, James’ parents have written a book detailing the journey of discovery that they took in trying to understand what was happening to their son and how the journey led them to believe that James was reliving the life of James Huston, a World War II fighter pilot who was killed in the battle for Iwo Jima over 60 years ago.

“Through painstaking research and conversations with war veterans and surviving family members of James Huston, Bruce and Andrea were forced to confront their skepticism and re-examine their entire belief system,” states a description of Soul Survivor: The Reincarnation of a World War II Fighter Pilot, which hit bookshelves this past Friday. “In the process, they not only managed to solve the mystery of their son’s statements. They even discovered revelations about James Huston’s life and wartime experiences that were finally to bring peace and healing to his loved ones, decades after his death.”

To write the book, the Leiningers teamed up with “hard-core skeptic” and journalist Ken Gross, who says he still doesn’t believe in reincarnation even after having worked with the Leiningers on the book.

“I am a secular, rationalist skeptic,” confesses Gross.

“But I have no reasonable explanation for James Leininger/Huston,” he adds.

According a Harris Poll survey conducted late last year, approximately 24 percent of Americans believe in reincarnation while 68 percent believe in the survival of the soul after death.

Among Protestants, 21 percent said they believe in reincarnation and 79 percent said they believe that the soul survives after death.

The figures were not much different when taking service attendance into account. Even among those who said they attend religious services at least weekly, 18 percent said they believe in reincarnation while 33 percent of those who “never” attend services said the same.

Notably, reincarnation was the least believable items on The Harris Poll’s list of things people believe in, which included miracles, heaven, angels, the devil, ghosts, UFOs, and witches, among others.

Topping the list was God, who 80 percent of Americans said they believe in.

Really? Past lives? This is what you're reduced to? Give me a break. How come people's "past lives" are always so awesome and dramatic? Nobody ever recalls their life as a stable cleaner in pre-Revolutionary France, or an impoverished low-caste Hindu in the 15th century. This is ludicrous in the extreme.

Astrology, ufos, fortune telling, and reincarnation all fantastic and despised by God, distract babes - unstudied in scripture - from learning the many simple truths that are actually contained in God's word the Bible, including resurrection, the way the dead will be brought back to life. The meek will inherit the earth - most of them having been resurrected not reincarnated. In the meantime the dead are asleep.

    johnzon,

There is no beauty in religion. Religion is relative. There is however, beauty in RELATIONSHIP with the Creator within the framework of the Judeo/Christian worldview.

There may however, be beauty in LIBERTY in America to believe what you choose, even if it's as absurd as believing that your're a purple elephant from the planet ZOON! Hey, if that belief floats your boat and you don't require medication and you're not a harm to anyone else, knock yourself out.

BUT religion is not judged by a person's claims to it nor by the system's claims to truth, BUT rather it is judged by how it best fits reality. Are the claims plausible? Are the truth claims verifiable? Historically? Scientifically? Practically? Philosophically?

You can claim to be a purple elephant, but that doesn't make you one. You can claim to be a doctor, that doesn't make you one. You can claim to be a Christian, that doesn't make you one.

The beauty of religion is you can choose to believe what you want. The down side of religion of course is too many believe their version to be correct and all other's wrong which leads to conflict. Religious belief is in the eye of the beholder.......

What James Leininger experienced is a very real supernatural phenomena, for there is no natural explanation.

However, even though it is a real experience, the source of that experience is demonic.

People die, but their demons 'live' on. The demons which are around today have invisibly lived with people since the Garden of Eden, they are fallen angels who along with their arch angel Lucifer were cast out of heaven to earth before God created man.

They have considerable supernatural power, but God restrains them. They are intelligent beings who remember all the individuals they had contact with, or had possessed, from the earliest times.

Manifestations of 'past lives' like young James has experienced are easily explained as being demonic encounters : the demon transferring the knowledge it has of the dead person.

The reason for this is to deceive. Demons are enemies of God and they want to attack God by attacking people made in the image of God.

James, if your reading this, if you renounce the experience as being of the devil and command it to cease in Jesus name, and trust Jesus to save you, you won't have any more 'reincarnation' to worry about, but hey, your dad will miss out on all the book royalties.

Just look at polls and how few Christians read their bible on a daily basis. Anyone who has spent quality time in the word would realize how far off base the guy is with his claims. Shoot, forget off base he isn't even in the same state as the ballpark. Christians have become complacent in daily devotions of any type. No longer can the excuse be used that the text is too difficult. The bible has been printed so that anyone with a 6th grade reading level can comprehend it. Is it any wonder why Christians are losing the culture war? This is a prime example of someone claiming faith in Christ and walking in a manner completely opposite of that faith.

Stories like this always leads back to one thing, biblical ignorance. And believe me, I was there too. It stems from relying on things you heard or thing that your preacher tells you but not out of the word of God. Being a christian has nothing to do with "following Jesus", asking Jesus into your heart or believing in Jesus. It's accepting what His son did on the cross as total payment for all sin forever and that He paid the penalty in full. It's not by joining a church, repeating a prayer or walking an aisle. If people would rightly divide the word of truth and know that you are not Israel under the law but a member of the body of Christ and what you are to do today in the dispensation of grace, things like this would be few and far between. But Satan has blinded people. He's an angel of light. He will make you think it comes from God. Wake up people.

Whatup everybody, this is my first time posting. Glad to be here.

I don't think I can get down with this, afterall doesn't the Word of God specifically speak out against reincarnation?

    Hebrews 9:26-28
26Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

So, the Bible teaches us that we die and we get Judged by Adonai.

Let's pray for our brother in Christ so that he won't be deceived by the enemy. I'm sure a lot of people weaker in faith would buy into this.

Why is it that whenever someone claims to be a reincarnated soul, it's ALWAYS someone really significant? - - Like Marie Antoinette or a WWII fighter pilot.

Just once, I'd love for someone to claim that they are simply the reincarnation of Gladys Smith from Peoria.

    :)

There is only one "reincarnation" to be concerned with.
One we should all be preparing for.

When Christ returns in the same manner in which he left...in clouds of Glory.

    Umm...

Only 79 per cent of Protestants believe they have an immortal soul?

We need to either disciple better, or change the definition of Protestant.

    Jehovah,

This is not demonic activity. This is creative activity, as in writing a book. I'm sure this guy believes it himself at this point.

What do you mean by "spiritism"? I've never heard a definition for that term.

  • Tue Jun 09, 2009 7:54 pm Agree: 10   Disagree: 5

    This is a demonic activity.

Demons are involved with necromancy and spiritism.Mediums possessed by an "öbh" demon (Hebrew)
In the Greek, it is engastrimuthos to indicate a ventriloquist type function. (voice imitations). This is the word used in the LXX for obh.
    1. Lev. 20:27, corrected translation, "and a man or a woman, if there is in them an öbh or a yiddoniy."
    a) yiddoniy is a "knowing one" = a knowledge demon.
    b) from Hebrew verb, yAda = to know.
    c) So this is a demon that reveals intimate and detailed knowledge to its host.
    d) This is a seducing spirit that promotes mysticism and spiritism.
    2. Deut. 18:11
    a) a medium: "one who consults an öbh. . ."
    b) consult = shAal, qal active participle = to consult or inquire.
    c) a spiritist: ". . .and a yiddoniy."
    d) "one who consults a ventriloquist demon and a knowledge demon."
    3. 1 Sam. 28:7, a woman who is a medium.
    a) Hebrew: "a woman who is host (baal=master) of an obh."
    b) This describes possession so that the demon expresses his own viewpoint through the host.
    4. Isaiah 8:19
    a) and when they say to you: This is the advice of the religious leaders of the nation.
    b) consult: dArash=seek.
    c) the mediums: not correct. "the öbh demons."
    d) and the wizards: "and the yiddoniy (knowledge demons)."
    e) who whisper and mutter: this refers to the audible revelations of demon contact.
    f) should not a people seek their God? This is Isaiah's advice.
    g) "Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?" This is what you seek to do when you pursue demon contact.
