Senate Blocks Tiller Resolution

By Nathan Black|Christian Post Reporter

The Senate recently blocked a resolution that condemns violence against abortion providers.

Opposition came from some Republicans and pro-life senators who objected to some of the language in the measure.

The resolution states in part that "health care employees have suffered threats and hostility to provide crucial services" and "recognizes that acts of violence should never be used to prevent women from receiving reproductive health care."

Pro-life groups contend that the language does not stop at only decrying violence but goes further to pay tribute to abortion providers and their services.

The sponsors of the bill, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), were advised to eliminate any mention of abortion to pass the measure, but they refused.

The measure comes in the wake of the murder of late-term abortion provider Dr. George Tiller, who was shot dead on May 31while serving as an usher at his church in Wichita, Kan.

Soon after his death, the U.S. House approved a resolution that condemns the murder, offers condolences to the family, and states that violence is never an appropriate response to a difference in beliefs.

The House measure makes no mention of abortion.

Meanwhile, the measure blocked in the Senate makes "reproductive health care," or abortion, central to the resolution.

"I realize that the issue of reproductive choice is divisive and that there are many heartfelt feelings on both sides of the aisle," said Shaheen in a statement earlier. "However, I was hopeful that, regardless of our differences of opinion on this sensitive issue, the Senate could come together and pass a resolution that rejects the use of violence against women's health care providers."

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, meanwhile, praised the senators for standing "strongly against an effort to glorify" abortion.

"Like us, they realize that just as violence cannot be tolerated, neither can any effort to exalt those who practice it against the unborn," he said.

Congress needs to pass a bill condemning the murder of Tiller because many clinics report that local law enforcement refuse to use the law to protect clinics and clinic workers, and clients. This is seen when the FBI did nothing regarding earlier reported vandalism by Tiller's assasin. BTW, I see our censor, the one who dislikes reasoned argument, has deleted my previous post.

let me ask you this, would it be alright to kill Hitler when he was alive? Abortionist are as bad as him because they are killing babies. Of course I would never do this, but if someone else wants to that's alright, I think.

What is the perspective of conservative Christians , about people who take steps to asure the non-recovery of victims of a pathological process? In other words , if a segment of the people refusede any assistance ; privately or publically ; for thousands subjected to a syndrome of illnesses stemming from viral replication.

    Tim,
I agree with you completely as far as you go. However as Christians we have responsibility to go further. I believe it is our duty to make clear that the murder is in no way justified. Some even on these threads professed to be Christians make statements which imply justification for such acts. I have had a long discussion with one such who suggested that taking a weapon and killing the non repentant sinner as a demonstration of the consequences of disobedience to god could be justified based on a passage from revelations and the belief that one was directed to murder by the holy spirit. While this is clearly unscriptural I was unable to shake that posters in his/her position despite weeks of providing verse after verse showing it to be against the teaching of Christ. As Paul instructed we must be vigilant in rejecting those who would give false teachings in the name of Christ.

Folsom Tim »Thu Jun 25, 2009 1:16 pm Killing is NEVER right. Whether it's killing babies (born or unborn) or abortionists. I am against abortion because I'm against murder. I view abortion as murder and I view killing abortionists as murder. The bill in question is meaningless since murder is already illegal. Congress should not need to have to pass a bill condemning murder.

In response:Folsom Tim, I agree in part that this resolution is unnecessary as murder is already proscribed as an illegal act.

As to the abortion issue, the point when viability has been proven medically and abortions during that period have been termed legal.

The actions of the anti-abortionists have lead to the deaths and destruction of property and violations of the FACE ACT, something that needs absolute strict enforcement by the authorities. It was during the King George period that this law was summarily not enforced leading to increased illegal activities by the anti-abortionists.

When the laws on the books are enforced the need to further legislation will be greatly reduced. Too often the lip service is given and nothing done beyond that to stop the illegal actions they are passed to prevent.

So some pulpit puppet Senators object to condemning the murder of "reproductive health care doctor" and complains that is glorifies abortion, but they know exactly what happened and by refusing to pass the resolution as written those Senators are in fact glorifying "MURDER" and that is prohibited under the Ten Commandments, which is even worse!

So those Senators by refusing to condemn the murder and specifically state the exact circumstances are not only glorifying illegal actions against doctors, but violating the Ten Commandments, thereby ignoring the truth and going against the very principles they claim to believe in , the WORST HYPOCRISY they could commit.

Alrighty then...how is interferring in a completely healthy pregnancy "reproductive health care". Reproductive health care is about being able to reproduce!

Hallelujah. Now if we could just have the Senate approve a resolution condemning the wholesale slaughter of millions of the innocent unborn.
