Officials: 6 Pakistani Christians Killed by Muslim Extremists

By Ethan Cole|Christian Post Reporter

Six Christians, including a child, were killed Saturday in eastern Pakistan by members of a banned radical Muslim group, officials said.

Hundreds of Muslim extremists continued to burn Christian homes after some members of the Sipah-e-Sahaba group accused Christians of desecrating the Quran on Thursday. Among the six Christians killed were four women.

Pakistan Christian Post reported that the Muslim mob pulled the Christian woman out of their homes and killed them execution style.

The sectarian riot began Thursday when thousands of Muslims raided a Christian village called Korian in Punjab province in eastern Pakistan and destroyed about 60 homes and two churches.

Local Muslims had accused a Christian family of desecrating the Quran when they found pages of the Islamic scripture in front of the family’s home. The family, however, said they do not know how the pages appeared in front of their home.

They nonetheless apologized, but Muslims filed charges against the family for blasphemy and then went on to attack the village, forcing some 100 Christian families to flee.

Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti, also Pakistan’s leading Christian human rights activist, said there is “no truth” to the claim that Christians desecrated the Quran, according to The Associated Press.

He said the mob was “misled by religious extremists.”

Other authorities and lawmakers have concurred, saying that after investigations there is no evidence of desecration of Islam’s holy book.

Besides the burning of homes, there was also an exchange of fire.

In a letter to the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, a Pakistani church leader said local television coverage has reported that dozens of Christian homes with all their belongings were completely burned to the ground while dozens of others were partially burned.

“Even the animals belonging to Christians are roasted in fire,” the church leader, whose identity is withheld for security reasons, said.

He recalled on July 5 that 117 Christians families were attacked in the village of Bahamaniwala also in Punjab province.

“Their houses were also destroyed and belongings were looted while women and children trying to escape were attacked with acid,” the church leader said. “The situation is grave in Korian. The Christian community has lost everything. They are desperate for help. As usual police and authorities have not acted in time.”

He requested prayers for the people in Korian.

Pakistan is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim, with Christians making up less than five percent of the 170 million population. The country’s blasphemy laws have too often been abused by Muslims who use them as a tool for revenge or persecution against Christians.

For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son, that whosoever would believe in Him would not die, but have everlasting life.

Yep, it proves just how loving He is that He doesn't want us to go to hell.

<< The Bible teaches (I realize that you don't accept it as authoritative), the eternality of the person. >>

The Bible also says something about a boat and a flood and all the surviving animals we see today were put on boat to protect them from an angry god that flooded the planet in a vengeful rage. The Bible loses credibility on that story alone. So I dont pay much attention to what is written in a book by men long ago.....

Hell was created for demons and Satan. Unfortunately, there are many who are more than willing to follow Satan to his demise.

As for the off-topic, God is a God of Love. As such, He would never torture any of His children. Hell and Hellfire as created by the Roman Catholic Church is a misunderstanding of scripture by ancient Bishops (deliberate or not), made at a time when many mistakes were being made in their doctrine and it was foretold wolves would come in to the Church and do much harm (as Luther knew so well).

The eternal Lake of Fire is symbolic, symbolizing the eternal death and separation (as abhodim has mentioned) from God of the individual who:
    1) at the time of the end has chosen not to believe in Jesus; or
    2) has died, been acquitted of all sin, and in the resurrection which is their second chance, refuses to follow Jesus but joins Satan before he is eternally destroyed in the Lake of Fire.

So yes johnzon, it will be like before you were born, so you're okay with that, fine.
I'd prefer to live in Paradise and will. I'd like for you to be there too.

Just as when the Jewish religious leaders caused the death of Jesus and then hid their atrocious sin by claiming that He was not the Son of God but another in a long line of impostors, thus turning centuries of their decendents against knowing the truth -

Just as when leaders of Christian peoples led their followers into killing innocent people and leaders of Muslim peoples did the same - causing their followers to murder people for them -

In Pakistan and other backward countries where there is no fair law and order or democracy, but government is by bullies - men get themselves in to leadership positions and then incite their mob into killing whoever they dislike or fear.

It will be interesting to see how quickly and how forcefully our leaders react to these murders of innocent families.
This will show us one reason why our world is getting worse.

    To johnzon,

I must respectfully disagree with you about non-existence. The Bible teaches (I realize that you don't accept it as authoritative), the eternality of the person. You'll be spending eternity somewhere. Whether the classical view of hell as a torture chamber is correct or not, its a terrible place to be. I personally believe that hell will be torment (which is self-inflicted) but not torture (which is inflicted by another). Would you really want to bet eternity on it? If there is nothing after death, then why do people cling to life so much? Wouldn't suicide be more preferable than a miserable life? (Please don't get me wrong, I'm NOT advocating suicide).

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life, (John 5:24).

"And these will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power," (2 Thess. 1:9).
"Just as Sodom & Gomorrah & the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire" (Jude 7).

    Is Hell Eternal?
There is an eternal hell in which hordes of mankind will suffer eternal punishment can be a difficult doctrine to accept. We hear so much about Gods infinite love, how He desires that all men be saved (1 Tim. 2:4). But, those who develop their theology based on the "gentle" side of God do so with an incomplete picture. Not only is God loving (1 John 4:8-10), gracious (Exo. 33:19; 1 Pet. 2:3), & merciful (Exodus 34:6; Psalm 67:1; James 5:11), He is also holy (Isaiah 6:3; Rev. 4:8), just ( Neh. 9:32-33; 2 Thess. 1:6), & hates sin (Psalm 5:5-6; Hab. 1:13). God punishes the sinner (Jer. 50:31; Ez. 44:12; Matt. 25:46; 2 Thess. 1:9; 2 Pet. 2:9; Heb. 10:29).

The Bible teaches that there is a fiery hell, a place that Jesus warned people about.

"& if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the eternal fire," (Matt. 18:8).1

Eternal fire is real. Jesus said it was. Jesus spoke a great deal about hell. It is what Jesus came to save us from.

A Day of Judgment! All people will face God. Those who are not covered by the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross will be cast into hell where they will suffer eternal punishment. "& these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life" (Matt. 25:46). In this verse, "eternal" is used to describe the punishment of the wicked as well as the eternal life of the believer. The punishment is endless as is the eternal life of the believer.

I do believe that the main part of Christianity serves as a religion of peace.

I urge many Christians and other religions to see that Islam too serves as a religion of peace. Lets not be poisoned by the prejudice which brought forth many religious conflicts.

If you are separated from God for eternity, what would that be like?
If closeness and communion with God is the greatest joy, what would separation be like?

you mean the Christian's I know and the fundies here on CP have it wrong, I wont get tortured forever for my lack of belief??

  • Sat Aug 01, 2009 10:09 pm Agree: 2   Disagree: 0

Nope! Christianity is the religion where, if you don't want eternal life with God in heaven, you simply won't be forced to be there.
    Call it a paradigm shift.

  • Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:40 pm Agree: 0   Disagree: 2

<< but Christianity, in its truest form, is the religion of perfect peace >>

is this the same religion that says you get tortured for an eternity if you dont "believe"??

  • Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:11 pm Agree: 2   Disagree: 0

Quite the contrary, but Christianity, in its truest form, is the religion of perfect peace. But this Christianity can't be hijacked by political purposes. Jesus was viewed as a prospective king, a political reformer (Jn. 6:15); He avoided such nonsense. He suppressed His disciples from declaring Him Messiah, knowing the wrong-headed notions that could arise from this politicizing confusion. (Mt. 16: 20)
In Church history, there were equally wrong-headed decisions made by sinful men. The Crusades, guided by a resolve to secure the lives of pilgrims visiting holy sites in Muslim held Palestine, got greedy and founded Crusader States. The Inquisition simply wasn't driven by the compassion of Gospel teaching. If the Spirit wasn't guiding those who took God's WOrd seriously, we would have fouled it up long ago.
But to confuse Christianity with some DaVinci Code conspiracy theory and vilifying religion as the source of all depravity if simple nonsense.
Such thinking borders on fascist movements and dogma that seeks some target "juden" to blame everything on.
    Oyy!!!

  • Sat Aug 01, 2009 3:35 pm Agree: 1   Disagree: 2

nor is Christianity a religion of peace. All too often religion & peace are a contradiction..

  • Sat Aug 01, 2009 1:53 pm Agree: 3   Disagree: 0

How many times does a mob have to be misled by extremists to realize this is not a religion of peace?
