1 Million People Rally Against Abortion in Spain

By Ethan Cole|Christian Post Reporter

An estimated one million people participated in a rally in Madrid Saturday to protest a proposed new law that would expand permission for abortion.

Demonstrators hold a banner reading 'women against abortion' during a march against a bill to ease restrictions on abortion, in Madrid, Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009. The protest was called to denounce a bill that would allow unrestricted abortion at up to 14 weeks of pregnancy and let girls aged 16 and 17 have abortions without parental consent, a vivid and emotional show of how the issue remains sensitive two decades after abortion was legalized in this traditionally Roman Catholic country.

The overwhelmingly Catholic country currently allows only abortion in the cases of rape, fetal abnormality, or when the mother’s physical or mental health is at risk. But the proposed law, introduced by socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, would allow abortion for any reason during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

Furthermore, the bill is proposing to allow girls as young as 16 to have an abortion without parental consent.

Under the theme “Every Life Counts,” protesters on Saturday called for the government to withdraw the bill from parliament.

The demonstration, backed by the Roman Catholic Church, saw thousands carrying signs reading “For Life, Women and Motherhood,” “Women Against Abortion,” and “Madrid 2009, Capital of Life.”

"We invite all 48 million Spaniards, regardless of the political party they belong to, whether they wear a cassock or practice their religion in a Synagogue or a Mosque," said Benigno Blanco, chairman of the Catholic coalition Family Forum, according to Reuters.

While Madrid’s regional government estimated the crowd to be about 1.2 million and a spokesman for one of the rally organizers said that 1.5 million people had attended, police said only 250,000 people participated, according to Agence France Presse.

Despite the massive rally, proponents of the proposed reform law maintain that the current law is unfair because it turns women and their doctors who perform abortion into criminals.

Equality Minister Bibiana Aido, a strong supporter of the reform, said though she has “total respect” for the protesters, “nobody has a monopoly on morality.”

“No woman can be penalized for taking such a difficult decision as that of abortion,” she said to AFP.

The proposal to relax abortion rules is the latest ethical issue that has deepened the divide between the Catholic Right and the socialist government. The government had also recently legalized gay marriage and made divorce easier.

    Gibbons,

I find it difficult, Gibbons, that for someone who has clearly read the bible like you have and yet you seem oblivious to the fact there is a letter of Paul to the ROMANS. The Roman Church, now known as the Roman Catholic Church has existed since Paul and Peter were there. Peter wrote from Babylon, which is the nick-name for Rome at the time. Christians in Rome historically wrote about the two apostles being there and how Paul and Peter were both martyred. We see that there are secular sources as well that show Paul and Peter preached in Rome and died in Rome. We also have writings in the catacombs too that confirm Paul and Peter's presence.

We also know historically that Linus was the second bishop of Rome, Anacletus was the third and Clement the fourth. Clements letters to the Corinthians are still revered today by Catholics and Orthodox alike. We also have letters written by Polycarp, Irenaus, Ignatius who describe the list of the bishops of Rome and how Rome has a special primacy. I learned this all at a HYPER-CALVINIST SEMINARY!

Ignatius of antioch in 107ad while the Apostle John was still alive is the first person to write of the Apostolic Church being known as "Catholic". This Catholic Church was made up of many churches including Rome, as it is today. The Roman Catholic Church has existed since Peter and Paul founded it, and has always had Primacy of honor among all the churches who are Catholic and of Apostolic origin.

We have the history from scripture, Christian historical writings by the Apostles successors, secular sources, and oral tradition all points to the same facts from various perspectives.

This strong witness from so many sources influenced me to believe the Catholic claim. If this is the Church founded by Christ, then she alone is promised to be lead into ALL TRUTH and has the power to bind and loose, forgive sins AND the gates of heii shall never prevail against her.

    On the Roman Catholic Church

Catholics delude themselves if they believe the Catholic story that the Catholic Church was formed by Peter (as they used to always say) or one generation after the Apostles (as some Catholics now say) or before Jesus was born (as some other Catholics say).
Jesus and the Apostles never heard of the Roman Catholic Church, and while the Apostles would have been horrified if they'd lived to see it, Jesus predicted it.

ANY religion that teaches more than the Word of God and claims what they teach has the same level of divine authority as the Bible, is not of God.

    IHS,

While I'm not impressed with this statement, "Just so you know, I am a highly conservative evangelical third generation Christian pastor in Seminary who is converting to the Catholic Faith.", I am impressed with this statement, "I have walked in many marches against liberals and fought against their relativism and the culture of death."

If you're ever again counselling, advising or even speaking to others, you should make sure of all things beforehand.
It appears you made the mistake of someone who should not be an elder or a teacher. You saw my first post (at the bottom below) through the eyes of someone "who is converting to the Catholic Faith" and is sensitive to all the substantial criticisms of the Catholic heresies, including their ludicrous claim that they trace their beginning back to the apostle Peter and not a much later pagan emperor.

In my post (bottom), I was adding my opinion with some facts, on the issue. I applaud the spanish people who protest the atrocity of killing children. That they are mostly Catholic is commendable. It doesn't mean that all the heretical practices of the Catholic Church are not heretical, just because (officially) Catholics don't approve of such horrendous things as abortion or homosexual sex.

While ignoring a solid comment, you worry yourself over my usual signature, which I almost always add to my posts, but which you wrongly thought was directed at these spanish Catholics.
This is why I give you the advice (I don't expect you will take (because of your "highly conservative evangelical third generation Christian pastor in Seminary" comment) - to make sure of all things before you hurl stones falsely accusing others of hurling stones. Ironic isn't it?

This is why it is important for all Christians to read the Bible for themselves and become well-versed in it, so that no one will be called Rabbi or Teacher. You/We are just too imperfect to put all our trust in people who may be a third generation family member with a degree in reading the Bible.

I commend you for your devotion to studying the Bible and fighting decadence. I should tell you that I just read the last page in your post record and find your comments to Christians to be harsh. And you shouldn't keep telling people you're a third generation anything, imo, as most people don't care.

There are those who throw out their degrees, until finally someone they're arguing with, throws out their much finer degrees.

I've noticed in recent weeks a huge increase in the number of people reading the articles, (based on the number of thumbs up/down), and yet very few have any opinion worth posting (based on the number of posts).

In recent weeks, there has been a huge difference in the number of posts versus the number of people thumbing up/down those posts.

I wish that those people who are thumbing up/down would say why they feel that way, so we can all share our different ideas. It would be far more interesting for all of us if all of you would post your individual opinions too. Surely, there can't be that much satisfaction in thumbing up/down other peoples' posts, can there?

If you believe that we posters feel happy when we receive an extraordinary number of thumbs up, or that we feel sad when we receive an extraordinary number of thumbs down, speaking for myself I'd have to laugh at your naivety. I couldn't care less, one way or another.

When I first joined and received a few thumbs up, I was pleased because I knew who they were from their presence in the thread. When the ratio was reasonable and made sense when compared to the number of people who were posting, I took notice of it.
But when I saw how certain people began giving people thumbs down, because they didn't like them or didn't like a previous comment by them, I lost interest in this function and now find it as useless as a boy wearing his mommy's pantyhose.

More importantly, all of you should know that when you run around thumbing up/down other peoples' posts, those of us who are posting believe that it's just one or two (sad) people, not the 30 or 40 people it appears to be.

We feel very sad that some people come here and spend most of their time thumbing up/down other peoples' posts, and lack the education or the intellect to form and post an opinion of their own.
And it's very sad that there are these pathetic souls who, because they have these profound mental deficiencies, they haven't got a real life with friends. And so they spend all day here, alone.
It's so pathetic we can't help but feel sad for you.

    On Heresy

God allows heresy to enter into His churches, so that He can see how you will respond, so that He can see who is a genuine and approved Christian and who is not.

    1 Corinthians 11:19

Many churches began accepting one or two deviations from God's Word, which over time became three or four etc...
In God's view, it doesn't matter whether there is one or one hundred deviations from His commands. In His view, it doesn't matter whether you add or delete one or one hundred scriptures to His Book.
All it takes is one bite from the tree He forbids you to eat from, to be guilty of sinning against Him. If one takes one bite and another takes several bites, He considers both to be equally guilty of sin.

Some old churches consider that because they've been doing unscriptural acts for so long, they don't need to change these "traditions", and to justify their refusal to repent, they tell their members that what they're doing isn't actually unscriptural or wrong.
Some modern churches think that if they deviate from the Bible on just one or two points, God won't be angry with them.
Some people think that because men with degrees misled them that they shouldn't personally be held responsible for not following the Bible and obeying God.

Heresies can and have multiplied to the point that some churches are barely recognizable as being followers of Christ rather than followers of man.
No one should persistantly accept heresies in their church. Worse, no one should believe or teach that God approves of any heresies from His Word.
A person must have a determined naiviety or obstinance not to recognize that accepting any heresy is standing with those who oppose God.

    IHS said,

"I think it is silly, Gibbons family, to imply the Catholic Church is Apostate. No educated evangelical would ever say that since..."

Nowhere did I imply in my post that the Catholic Church is apostate.

You should know that I have a signature under my name, usually the one you see below.
In that signature, I encourage people to protect their family members, by pulling their children out of the public school system, which in most places has been deviously taken over by the Radical Feminist/Homosexual Alliance, by using their organizations (eg. Teachers' Unions) to control important aspects of the education system (eg. school subjects, textbooks' content, school environment).
In that signature, I also encourage people to protect their family members, by staying away from apostate churches (and wise, Godly Christians wouldn't stand for anything God would define as heretical).

It's interesting that while ignoring the actual body of my email, which succinctly covered the true identities of the people who promote abortion and how they have devoted their lives to spreading this murder around the world using lies and propaganda, you chose to focus on my usual signature which has nothing to do with this article.

That doesn't bother me. What does, is when you employ a common tactic used for the past 4+ decades by the RFHA and their millions of brainwashed liberal followers. If you're not a liberal, I forgive you for using this tactic yourself (ironically, on a well-educated Christian) for it has been used thousands of times in our schools and in science documentaries since the 1970's.
That is saying, "No educated evangelical would ever say that..."
The implication is that only ignorant (opposite of educated) people would disagree with you.

The tactic of saying that no "educated", "intelligent" (opposite of stupid), "forward-thinking" (opposite of backward) person in "modern times" (opposite of primitive) would still believe that...., has been used to silence the majority and promote abortion, evolution and homosexual sex acts.

It's a devious, manipulative tactic, frequently used by deviant activists and their politicians. No "aware" person would be blind to just how many times.

One other thing you should know about me, is I rarely "imply" anything. And if you are a Christian, you should be careful throwing accusations at other Christians ("Careful throwing those apostate stones...") until you've thought about it.

Lastly, there is no boulder in my eye as far as attending a church that is apostate or accepts 'any' heretical activities God deplores. Can you say the same?

    God bless their protest!

Yes, pull them out of public school is a great idea. Send them to Catholic school or evangelical schools so they will learn to protect human life.

Home school is also a great option!!!

I think it is silly, Gibbons family, to imply the Catholic Church is Apostate. No educated evangelical would ever say that since we as evangelicals accept so much that they defined as faith; Apostles creed, 27 books of the New Testament, incarnation of Christ, the two natures of Christ(fully divine fully human at same time), the hypostatic union, The trinity, salvation by Grace, communion of Saints, virgin birth, Salvation is only through Jesus, Jesus is the ONLY son of God, etc.

While evangelicals may have disagreements with some of their doctrines, like the disagreements with other evangelicals, pentecostals and Reformation Protestants it is a bit much to call anyone apostate.

Apostate is a total turning away from God if you want the correct definition. Careful throwing those apostate stones, since their may be a boulder in your eye. :)

With all the latest technology, exposing the lies we were told about abortion and fetal development, it's time we put an end to the murder of millions of human beings and stop the Radical Feminists' Holocaust.
