A Promise That Will Never Disappoint

I'm asking for a show of hands in our CWM audience. How many of you have had someone promise you something and then not come through? My guess is if I could see through the computer screen all hands would be raised. One of the many things I love about the God we serve is that He always keeps His promises. On top of that He keeps His promises even when we are not faithful to Him.

Let's look at one of the many wonderful promises of God. "Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5. As a child, teen, and even adult I have memorized the end of this verse. Yet, the first part of the verse helps us interpret the last part. We live in a society that constantly screams at us that we don't have enough. We need more to be content. Then, we get the new car or new house and we find out that we are not content. Also, right now many families are struggling mightily with their finances due to lost jobs and this difficult economy. This verse tells us to learn to be content with what we have. Rarely, if ever, does anyone encourage us to be content with what we have.

This is such an important lesson for us and our children. We need to teach our children to be content with the toys, clothes, possessions that they have. We don't need the newest gadget to keep up with our friends. Is there peer pressure to keep up with others? You bet. Let's be honest as adults we feel the need to keep up. Yet, our precious Jesus never owned a thing when he was here on earth. He left his mansions in glory in come "slumming" to earth. He never owned a home. He only had the clothes he wore. Yet, His life as fully human and fully divine was complete. Do we really need everything we have or do we want everything we have?

Now to God's precious promise that will never disappoint. There will be days in our lives when we are lonely and feel abandoned by everyone. Yet, God promises to never leave us nor forsake us. In our darkest moments we are never truly alone God is always there. He has our back, our front, and our sides. We are surrounded by Him and his love for us. Does that bring comfort to you? It does to me. Nothing is sweeter than being in God's presence and knowing he will never abandon me. What an awesome promise from our awesome God.

Dear CWMs take comfort today that your heavenly Father loves you so much and He will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. That is a promise you can count on to never be broken. One day we will be in his literal presence. What a day that will be. May we all learn to be content with what we have and learn to live on less. We don't need things. What we need is to live in the continual presence of our Savior.

Final Thoughts

With the new school year starting and even if you have little ones in daycare take time to pray for your children. Pray your children will make wise choices in friendships. Pray for the teachers who lead your children. Pray that in all things your children will point others to Christ and be salt and light in a dark world.
