Boston Red Sox vs St Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of the World Series 2013 takes place on Saturday night as the series moves to the Busch Stadium in Missouri with things all square at 1-1. The game will start at 8.07 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
The Cardinals bounced back from their big defeat in Game 1 to take Game 2 in a tense affair at Fenway Park. When the Red Sox managed to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead in Game 2 it looked like the Cardinals were heading for a second straight defeat. However, they showed their character to regain the lead, hitting three in the top of the seventh. That was the last of the scoring and the game ended 4-2 to St Louis to tie up the series.
The way things look right now, this series could go all the way to the wire in Game 7, however, much will depend on how the Red Sox can cope on the road at Busch Stadium.
Game 3 will be important, and if the Cardinals can win again tonight it will show that momentum has firmly shifted in their direction with Games 4 and 5 both also to take place in Missouri.
Game 3's pitching matchup pits Jake Peavy of the Red Sox against Joe Kelly for the Cardinals.
Kelly, a 25 year old right hander, posted a 10-5 record with a 2.69 ERA through the regular season. However, in games where he was a starter he was marginally better, going 9-3 with a 2.28 ERA.
In the postseason though Kelly has struggled at times, and in his three 2013 playoff starts so far he has a 4.41 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. The Cardinals have lost two of his three starts.
Meanwhile, Peavy was 12-5 with a 4.17 ERA through the season, but on the road he has struggled with a 5.27 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 14 regular season road starts.
However, in the postseason Peavy has had a tough time of it. Through his career he has had 4 playoffs starts and has a shocking 10.31 ERA and 1.96 WHIP. His teams for those games are 1-3.
But at Busch Stadium in his career things have looked much better, and he has a 2.25 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. The Red Sox will be desperately hoping that his Busch Stadium form can emerge tonight rather than his past postseason form.
