'Destiny' Valentine's Day Event to Spread Love, But Fans Heartbroken with 'Destiny 2' Release Date Delay

Bungie aims to set "Destiny" players' hearts a-fluttering in the Month of Love with a new event. But this may not assuage fans' disappointment over the reported delay of the game's sequel, "Destiny 2."

Crimson Days event and new mode Crimson Doubles

On Friday, Bungie announced "Destiny's" first-ever Valentine's Day event, which will be on a scale "close" to last year's Halloween event Festival of the Lost. The week-long event is called "Crimson Days." To participate in the event, players need to go to the Tower when the event starts on Feb. 9.

In addition to the new event, Bungie revealed that a new 2v2 Crucible mode will be coming with next month's update. The new mode is called Crimson Doubles and will require at least a pair of players working together to earn some "sweet" loot.

"It features a special twist, born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate," Bungie said. "You'll need a dancing partner — preferably one that compliments your fighting style."

The developer will share more details and tips about this new mode in its next weekly update.

"Destiny 2" delayed, according to report

The as-of-yet unannounced sequel to "Destiny" has been delayed from its supposedly September 2016 release date, confirms Kotaku's Jason Schreier, who got the information from his Bungie-connected sources. One of the sources say the developer has asked its team to build new DLCs to compensate for "Destiny 2's" delay.

The report says the delay is due to Bungie not having a roadmap for the franchise's future. As a result, the developer's plans for "Destiny" are "constantly in flux."

Based on a previously leaked contract, Bungie had scheduled annual releases, switching from full games to expansions and vice versa in the span of 10 years. That plan, however, seems to have changed.

This lack of certainty on what's coming next for the game has left fans discontented, but primarily because the developer has set them up to expect a rigid release schedule as was noted in the game's year 1. In addition, fans are also not happy about Bungie's lack of transparency, which the report says permeates even within the studio.

Neither Bungie nor Activision has made any comments when asked for clarification.
