Ferrell on Kanye West's 'Anchorman' Cameo, Didn't Want to 'Upset' Rapper

Will Ferrell opened up about having Kanye West on the set of "Anchorman 2" earlier this year in a recent interview.

The comedian discussed filming the sequel to 2004's "Anchorman" with the film's director, Adam McKay, who also divulged details about working with West.

Cast members such as Christina Applegate, Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd are returning for the second film, "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," as well as a slew of celebrity guests including Jim Carrey, Kristen Wiig, Vince Vaughn, and Grammy Award-winning rap artist, West.

At the time, West was working on his latest and sixth album, "Yeezus," and would offer a preview of it from the set of "Anchorman 2." However, Ferrell recounted that filming the movie would sometimes interrupt West's playing sessions.

"He was playing it through the sound department, on the speakers on set, at the park, as people were setting up for the next shot," Ferrell explained to Rolling Stone magazine. "Which was great. But then he didn't understand when it had to be turned off, when it was time to actually film. He was like, 'Hey man, what's going on?' We didn't want Kanye to get upset, but at the same time, we kind of had to film."

Furthermore, "Anchorman" director McKay noted that West put in extra efforts while filming his cameo in Atlanta at the time.

"Kanye was great," McKay started. "He really locked in. He asked me a ton of questions. He's super-interested in process- he's a big fan of comedy. He took private lessons in beginner's improve with a friend of mine in Chicago a few years ago."

The director also recalled West offering a sneak peak at his upcoming album, including one intense performance.

"He rapped us a new song, then rapped it again for hair and make-up- so awesome," said McKay.

"He was like, 'You guys want to listen to some new tracks?' We're like, Yeah sure! Then he started performing, and it gets to the point where he's screaming," the director explained. "He goes a full 100-miles-an-hour. Then he's turn off and go, 'Anyway, thanks.' It was hilarious."

The director also commented on West's girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, who joined the rapper on set. She was six months pregnant with their daughter at the time.

"She was there the first day," he told Rolling Stone. "She seemed like this totally normal, pretty girl- not the most-Googled woman on earth."

Meanwhile, "Anchorman 2" hits theaters everywhere Dec. 18th.
