'Fortnite' News: Cross-Platform Play Temporarily Featured Due to a Glitch

Gamers have a lot of similarities with each other, regardless of the console they use. The entire community wants a game title that lets them get involved with a compelling storyline. Thus, it only makes sense that given their similarities, gamers should be allowed to interact with other fellow players without the barrier posed by having different consoles. Recently, "Fortnite" illustrated why cross-platform play might just be the future of gaming.

The cross-console play was found in the co-op sandbox survival game during the weekend, and fans took to the "Fortnite" subreddit to report them instead. Some were doubtful that it was actually occurring, especially since Sony remains to be resistant to the idea. However, "Fortnite" developer Epic confirmed that the cross-platform play did indeed happen.

"We had a configuration issue and it has now been corrected," an Epic spokesperson told Eurogamer.

Epic's statement implies that the cross-platform play will no longer be available on "Fortnite" anytime soon, fans were thrilled to be sharing the same environment with players from both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

According to Polygon, Sony has previously stated that they were against cross-console play because it might jeopardize the safety of their gamers if they were allowed to interact with the Xbox One community.

However, Xbox head Phil Spencer disagrees. Fans took to social media to ask him what he thought about the glitch and he responded by saying that he would have loved to see Epic leave it on. Spencer continues to advocate cross-platform play, and although it might not happen in the near future, fans, who experienced what the feature has to offer on "Fortnite," remain hopeful. Sony has not responded yet to comment.

"Fortnite" was released last July 25. It is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
