Nexus 9 vs iPad Air 2 Review: Comparison of Specs, Features

2014 saw the release of new tablets for both Google and Apple. Google has launched its much awaited follow up to its Nexus 10, which was released in 2012, while Apple attempts to outdo its iPad Air, which is touted to be one of the best tablets in the world.

Here, we pit the Google Nexus 9 against the iPad Air 2 in the battle of the high-end and large screen tablets:

Design:
The iPad Air 2 looks nearly identical to its predecessor, with a few upgrades, while the Nexus 9 is an entirely different device from the Nexus 10 or even the Nexus 7.

The iPad Air 2 is thinner and lighter than the original at 9.4 x 6.6 x 0.24 inches and 0.96 pounds, while the Nexus 9 measures 8.98 x 6.05 x 0.31 inches and 0.94 pounds. When it comes to dimensions, there's not much difference between the two, but the iPad Air 2 has a larger display at 9.7 inches versus the Nexus 9's 8.9-inch screen. However, both screens have the same resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.

The Apple tablet has a unibody aluminium construction, while the Google tablet has a plastic body.

Features:
Both tablets are equipped with an 8 MP main camera, but the Nexus 9's front facing camera is slightly better than the iPad Air 2's at 1.6MP versus 1.2MP.

The Google tablet is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 dual core processor and runs on the Android 5.5 or Lollipop, while the iPad Air 2 has the Apple A8X processor and runs on the iOS8.

The Nexus 9 has an internal storage of 32GB which can be expanded with a microUSB slot, while the Apple tablet is available from 16GB to 128 GB variants.

The Google Nexus 9 starts at $399, while the Apple iPad Air 2 starts at $499.
