'Grey's Anatomy' Star Patrick Dempsey Disapointed With the Show? Actor Would Rather Race Driver

Patrick Dempsey has played Dr. Derek Shepherd on ABC's hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" since the show began in 2006. Despite his long run on the popular show, the actor has recently expressed some disappointment with the show and his career as an actor. It seems that he'd rather be driving race cars professionally than acting professionally, as he expressed in the new documentary called "Patrick Dempsey: Racing LeMans."

In an interview with Today, Dempsey clarified his stance on acting versus racing.

"Work on a TV show doesn't change. In a race, it changes constantly, every lap, every corner, every moment of that day. And that's very exciting. And it keeps me alive. And then I can go back to work and enjoy it," Dempsey said.

Though it sounds like he is being rather critical of the show, Dempsey went on to say that he does not dislike "Grey's Anatomy."

"I'm not necessarily bored with the show. I'm incredibly grateful to have a show that's been on for 10 years. When you're on the show, coming up on 200 episodes, it's about surviving," he continued. "There's not a lot of homework that goes into it. You learn your lines and try to stay present and try not to get caught acting. I'm glad I have the gig, but it's not the same as being in a race car."

In a documentary premiering later this summer, Dempsey shows off his racing chops. The documentary is titled "Patrick Dempsey: Racing LeMans" and will air on Aug 28 on Velocity.
