'Homeland' Season 7 Spoilers: Saul Finds a Savior in Carrie's Old Friend

Carrie's (Claire Danes) old friend will be in charge of Saul's (Mandy Patinkin) fate in the upcoming season of "Homeland."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, new faces will be added to the growing cast of the Showtime series in the new installment. The drama has tapped Morgan Spector to play the role of Dante Allen, a friend of Carrie's who will be tasked to investigate the 200 people detained by the Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) administration following the failed assassination attempt against her. It remains to be seen if Carrie will use her connection to Dante in order to help Saul with his predicament. Saul was one of the people captured after the coup.

It will be Dante's task to prove that Saul had nothing to do with the insurgents and that he is being falsely accused of a crime he did not do. Knowing Carrie, she will try to approach her friend and assure him that her mentor is innocent. Dante may end up saving Saul in the event that he succeeds in clearing his name.

Meanwhile, another new addition to the cast is Mackenzie Astin who will play the role of Carrie's brother-in-law, Bill. Bill is described as a former teacher of the American University who is set to serve under the Keane administration at the Department of Treasury.

Both actors are said to be Showtime's way of filling in the void that Rupert Friend left in the series. His character, Quinn, was killed in last season's finale, much to many fans' outrage and dismay. Quinn saved Carrie and Keane from the mutineers, and by doing so, he sacrificed his own life. Spoilers indicate that his death will have a crippling effect on the remaining characters, especially Carrie. She will allegedly feel guilty for what happened to her friend. This may even lead to the return of Carrie's bipolar disorder, which has been held at bay in the previous storylines.

"Homeland" season 7 is expected to air sometime in 2018.
