HTC One M8 vs. iPhone 5c: Spec and Feature Comparison

The HTC One M8 launched earlier this week and will go up against several impressive handsets in the market including Apple's lower end iPhone 5c.

The iPhone 5c doesn't pack the same punch as the iPhone 5s, but it is still a great bargain device that might make more sense to purchase than some of the more high-end expensive models. The HTC One M8 is definitely top-of-the-line, but is it really worth the high price tag and is it innovative enough to usher smartphone users into the next-generation? Here is a spec and feature comparison of the two.

The iPhone 5c comes with a 4-inch retina display that features great colors and keeps the device compact and easy to carry around. The HTC One M8 packs a 5-inch LCD screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution at 441 ppi. The HTC One M8 might have the best looking display on the market as the company chose to keep it mostly the same as the original model which was already great. But a 5-inch display might be a little too big for those looking for a compact device. Those looking for a high-end phone for gaming and movie watching will want to pick up the One M8, but those seeking out a basic smartphone that's compact might want to grab a 5c.

Design

The iPhone 5c features a plastic outer shell that comes in various colors including white, pink and yellow. The HTC One M8 comes with a shiny metal exterior that gives it a classy and sophisticated look. The iPhone 5c is definitely not beautiful, but could be a great choice for kids while the HTC is easily the better fit for a business person or adult. The HTC One M8 easily takes this area as it is one of the best looking devices to hit the market.

Price

The HTC One M8 will start at $199 with a new contract through most carriers. The iPhone 5c is currently available with 16GB of internal memory for just $99. The price point is tough to beat, but customers must know that they are getting a lot less. You are basically getting what you pay for here and for an extra $100 you could have something state-of-the-art. Is the difference enough to make the iPhone 5c a real player? Not really.

Extras

Aside from the snazzy colors, the iPhone 5c is basically and iPhone 5 in new clothing. It features the same great camera, but does little else to woo consumers. The HTC One M8 packs updated BoomSound speakers that are 25 percent louder than the original version. It also has sensors that allow users to make single touch gestures for answering calls and opening specific apps. The One M8 just offers a lot more in general.

Conclusion

The iPhone 5c is not much of a match for the HTC One M8. It is a basic device that appeals to those looking for a cheaper smartphone, but unfortunately it's just not cheap enough. The HTC One M8 features a pretty fair price tag and does above and beyond what the average smartphone user would want it to do.
