Katy Perry, John Mayer Split 2014: Did 'Roar' Singer End It?

Katy Perry and John Mayer have split after more than one year of dating, a new report claims.

The Hollywood couple reportedly ended their relationship in recent days, with an insider revealing that Perry, 29, took steps to initiate the split. Neither has publicly confirmed the breakup report, according to E! News.

It is unclear what prompted the "Who You Love" duo to split, however, critics noted Mayer's absence from the "Roar" singer's recent trip to London and Milan. Perry has been busy abroad promoting her upcoming Prismatic world tour, which kicks off in May, and some fans are speculating whether scheduling conflicts played a role in the split.

The breakup report comes just one week after Perry fueled engagement rumors when she emerged with Mayer, 36, on Valentine's Day wearing a ring on her wedding finger. The pair showed no signs of strain and looked happy and relaxed following a romantic dinner at L.A.'s exclusive Sunset Towers Hotel.

"John says all the time that Katy is going to be his wife. He says she just gets him like no one else does," a source previously told Life & Style magazine.

The couple began dating in August 2012 and while they briefly split up in March 2013, they reconciled in July and appeared to be happier than ever.

"I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time, and it just so happens we fit together great," Perry recently told W magazine.

Mayer is believed to have helped the pop star overcome her divorce from British actor Russell Brand. The "Roar" singer, 29, attributed her brief split from the singer to her divorce.

"I took a break from my boyfriend, not one that I wanted. It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me," Perry told the January issue of Marie Claire.

"That is what led me to this new awakening, this realizing, 'If I don't do some self-love, I'm not going to be able to keep the love that I want,'" she explained. "I still needed to deal with all of my ex-husband stuff. I hadn't. It's almost like if I kept talking about it, it would seem like I actually cared about it. I don't."
