'Madam Secretary' Season 4 Spoilers: Elizabeth to Face Murder Investigation

Elizabeth (Tea Leoni) will find herself in the middle of a murder investigation in the upcoming season premiere of "Madam Secretary."

In the episode titled "News Cycle," the synopsis (according to CarterMatt) revealed that the Secretary of State will face a huge predicament. While in a meeting on the first day of the U.N General Assembly, the assistant vice minister of Timor-Leste dies. Suspiciously, the country's president orders for the body to be brought back without investigation. Soon after, news begins to surface connecting Elizabeth to the minister's death. It looks like she is being accused of murdering the man.

This is probably why Chief Justice Wilbourne (Morgan Freeman) will appear again in the series. Elizabeth will undergo interrogation as the international community clamors for justice. The Americans need to prove that their secretary of state is innocent as soon as possible to prevent an even bigger crisis. If it is somehow confirmed that she had a hand in the minister's death, everything she has ever worked hard for will be reduced to shreds. They also need to dig deep to know who started the fake news and what the real culprit's motives are.

It looks like Elizabeth and her team at the State Department will be going through another roller coaster ride in season 4. Aside from the secretary of state's problems, spoilers indicate that her other colleagues will also be facing their own share of setbacks. For instance, it has been speculated that Nadine (Bebe Neuwirth) will be in trouble because of her boyfriend, Mike Barnow (Kevin Rahm). Previously, the political consultant already caused problems when he clashed with Elizabeth. There is a huge chance that he will once again be involved in a messy standoff with the secretary.

Although Nadine has made it a point to separate her personal and professional lives, the time may have come when she has no choice but to think things through. There are speculations she will either break things up with Mike or end up leaving the State Department. As Elizabeth's chief of staff, Nadine's potential resignation will have a huge effect on the team's dynamics. There is no way the secretary will let her go.

"Madam Secretary" season 4 is scheduled to start airing on Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
