Madonna's net worth has risen considerably after earning $125 million in the last year. Although her latest album MDNA didn't do so well commercially, her touring and other business ventures have kept her at the top of the list of highest-earning celebrities.
Madonna's net worth is not yet $1 billion, according to Forbes.com, but is rising rapidly due to her earnings between June 2012 and June 2013. The finance website estimated her earnings from her latest tour, which grossed $305 million internationally. On top of monies from ticket sales, the singer also made substantial revenue from merchandise and DVD rights.
The business that is Madonna doesn't stop there. Dipping into various franchises has bought her much success, with one of the biggest being her personal fragrance- the Material Girl's Truth or Dare perfume. Investments she made in Vita Coco coconut water and a gym franchise Hard Candy also provided residual earnings over the past year.
She also has a Material Girl clothing line in Macy's that sells shoes, lingerie, and other items. Her various ventures put her at the top of Forbes list, but other entertainment moguls aren't far behind.
Next on the list was Steven Spielberg, the movie director known most recently for his historical drama "Lincoln"- he raked in an estimated $100 million in the last fiscal year due to many classics like "E.T." and "Jurassic Park" that play worldwide.
Tying for third place was Simon Cowell, who created "X Factor" and "America's Got Talent." Equally earning $95 million is author E.L. James, who penned the "50 Shades of Grey" trilogy and now is in works for a movie deal.
In the top 10 highest-earning celebrities were also author James Patterson, director Michael Bay, film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and singer Lady Gaga. Although media mogul Oprah Winfrey has made the list numerous times, she took a pay cut in 2013, still earning a hefty $77 million.
