Nexus 5 Sprint Owners Experiencing Problems With Activation

Several Sprint customers attempting to activate the new Nexus 5 on the carrier's service have been experiencing problems.

Reports found in XDA developer's forums highlight some of these issues. Sprint normally does not sell its SIM cards directly to customers so those purchasing the smartphone through Google Play are having a tough time obtaining one. Local Sprint stores have told some that they would have to wait until Nov. 8 to get one. Others said users should return the Google Play version and purchase it directly through the carrier instead.

A solution to the problem could be found on Sprint's Corporate Community page.

"In order to obtain a SIM/UICC card for the device, you can go into a Sprint Corporate Store and they can sell one to you at No Charge," wrote the company. "This way the device can be successfully activated."

Other Sprint customers are running into problems with the actual activation process while using the 32GB model.

Some of the XDA developer forum users have suggested that Sprint's activation system is faulty since it requires a verifiable range of MEID numbers. Sprint will not offer the device until Nov. 8, so it is possible that the number range for the 32GB is not available in the company's system at this time and will be there on the official release date.

However; the problem might have been clarified in a statement made by a Sprint rep who stated that the company will only support the 16GB version. He also went on to say that the system will not support any serial number outside of the model with less memory.

Another rep stated that this previous comment was inaccurate and claimed that both models will be supported while apologizing for any confusion caused by previous statements.

All of these issues should be worked out during the next few days.
