'Prey' Release Date, News: Mimic Matter Turns Players Into Inanimate Objects
A lot of science fiction games deal with the subject of warding off non-terrestrial beings or saving your life by steering clear of them. In Bethesda Softworks' "Prey," however, they are changing the concept by allowing the player to acquire the alien's powers and use it against them.
This feat is clearly demonstrated in the latest trailer called "Mimic Madness." The clip shows the protagonist Morgan Yu turning into inanimate objects in order to avoid raising suspicion from the ferocious aliens on the Talos I known as the Typhon. From coffee mugs to rolls of tissue paper, the concept sounds hilarious but when one is faced with a life or death situation, one must do whatever it takes to survive.
Global Content Lead Gary Steinman writes on the game's official website that this skill is known as Mimic Matter. "This power allows you to take the form of just about any appropriately sized object aboard Talos I," Steinman explains. "You'll start small — a coffee mug, a teapot, a lamp, a banana — but as you level up this ability, you'll soon be able to mimic more complex objects, including an impressive array of security turrets and Operator robots."

This is just one of the many skills Morgan Yu can use in order to roam freely aboard the Talos I, but it is arguably an important skill that is necessary to pass by stealthily. This can be employed in launching ambush attacks and even solving puzzles without being too conspicuous for the Typhons to take notice.
The game's story revolves around an alternate reality where John F. Kennedy escapes assassination, bringing the United States to an era of space exploration. Like other sci-fi plots, man's quest goes awry, bringing rise to Typhons who wreak havoc in the space shuttle. Morgan Yu must do his best to survive.
"Prey" arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on May 5, 2017.
