Rihanna New Song 'Towards The Sun' Released: Surprise Single Out For DreamWorks Film

Rihanna took fans by surprise when she released a new single, "Towards The Sun" for an animated film where she's making her debut as a voice actor.

R&B pop singer,Rihanna surprised her fans when she released a new song, "Towards The Sun" for DreamWorks' new computer animated comedy, "Home." The 3D film also marks the Barbadian artist's first foray into voice acting.

Rihanna's falsetto takes center stage in what is described to be an epic and empowering pop tune. The song takes an optimistic and bright look to life in contrast to the singer's recent dark releases.

"Turn your face towards the sun," Rihanna sings in the soundtrack. "Let the shadows fall behind you."

"Home" is a story about an alien race fleeing their mortal enemy, ending up on earth where they start to build a new life. Thinking it is for their own good, the aliens start abducting humans and relocating them to a far away desert planet, except for one teenage girl, Tip, played by Rihanna, who manages to evade capture.

Rihanna joins a voice cast composed of Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and Jim Parsons in the March 27 release of the animated film based on the children's book, "The True Meaning of Smekday," written by Adam Rex.

"Towards The Sun" is Rihanna's second release of the year following her Kanye West and Paul McCartney collaboration, "FourFiveSeconds," which will be featured on Rihanna and West's new LPs due for launch this year.

According to Variety, Rihanna has written lyrics for a whole album of songs based on "Home," but no word has yet been released if the music will appear as the movie's soundtrack when it hits theaters late next month.

"Home" is Rihanna's fifth acting credit to date. She has starred in the 2012 sci-fi flick, "Battleship" alongside Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, and Liam Neeson, had a cameo appearance in 2014's "Annie," as well as roles in "This Is The End" in 2013 and "Bring It On: All or Nothing" in 2006.
