Solange Knowles arrives at the 2014 Met Gala

Solange Knowles, her famous sister Beyonce and rap mogul brother-in-law Jay Z are finally speaking out after their altercation went viral Monday.

Solange, the 27-year-old singer and sister of fellow songstress Beyonce, can be seen physically attacking her brother-in-law Shawn "Jay Z" Carter while exiting the Met Gala that was held in New York City's The Standard Hotel. After the May 5 altercation made national headlines when TMZ posted the audio-free video Monday, the family is speaking up about the matter.

"As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it," the statement made to the Associated Press Thursday. "Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred."

According to the family, both Jay Z and Solange made up with each other.

"They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public," the family said. "They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."

However, the trio is speaking out about false reports concerning Solange being intoxicated that night leading to the altercation.

"The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems and we're no different," the statement reads. "We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

The Standard Hotel insisted that the person who leaked the video of the famous elevator altercation was found and fired while holding the individual "responsible for breaching the security policies of the hotel and recording the confidential CCTV video released by TMZ," according to The New York Daily News. The hotel's management is going to turn the information to criminal authorities, according to the publication.
