'Sonic Mania' News and Updates: SEGA Releases Hilarious Trailer for Game's Collector's Edition

SEGA is going full on nostalgia mode with "Sonic Mania" as it releases a new trailer for the game's Collector's Edition.

Hilarious Trailer

Parodying the infomercials that were a huge hit back in the 1990s, SEGA introduces a hilarious new trailer promoting the "Sonic Mania Collector's Edition". The trailer features the familiar deep yet upbeat narrator voice detailing the whole sequence, complete with a video resolution that was aged back decades. It even comes with a subtle anaglyph effect where red and cyan colors appear on occasions.

The entire trailer itself was promoted to be produced back in 1996. The setting was definitely adjusted to the period, which was when the character of Sonic the Hedgehog was at its peak of popularity. What was truly amazing about the new promotional campaign is that it takes "Sonic Mania" back to its roots, when laugh tracks and boxes floating in outer space were still a thing.

"Sonic Mania Collector's Edition" Set

The "Sonic Mania Collector's Edition" indeed has a lot to offer its buyers. The box itself was the main subject of the trailer. It shows a parody of clumsy individuals in usual infomercials that the box can fix. It was shown to wipe out stains, handle the pressure of outer space, completely sizzle an egg, and even hold any tackle box easily.

Inside the box though, there's the small yellow Metallic Collector's Card that features Sonic the Hedgehog. This then contains the code for the main "Sonic Mania" game. This could be entered to the website, which the trailer still comically calls it its full World Wide Web moniker. The game itself pays homage to the two dimensional origins of the franchise, so nostalgia is really bound to emanate everywhere.

There is also a SEGA Cartridge Cast packed in the "Sonic Mania Collector's Edition". This was originally used to play the original Nintendo platforms. The cartridge then houses one of the Golden Rings that players must collect in almost all Sonic the Hedgehog games. In the trailer, a man was amusingly shown getting down on his knees with the ring to propose to his partner, who then eventually says yes.

Not prominently featured in the trailer is the inclusion of a 12-inch Sonic the Hedgehog statue in the "Sonic Mania Collector's Edition". The character is portrayed to be standing on a SEGA Genesis console with a power toggle. Powering it on would then trigger the nostalgic SEGA startup jingle.

Availability

"Sonic Mania" would be released on Spring of 2017. It will be playable on different platforms, including the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
