Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Release Date, Specs Rumors: Likely to Follow the Xperia Z3

Sony's next flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3, is bound to be released sometime in the next month or two with the Z3 Compact to follow. The announcement might be done by Sony sometime in September, with the actual release sometime before the year ends.

The Z3 Compact is expected to mirror the specs and the hardware of its bigger brother to some extent. Naturally, the Z3 Compact will come out with smaller dimensions but the hardware might not suffer as much.

The Z3 Compact will come out with a design much like the Z3 but with smaller bezels, a thinner profile, and maybe a pair of front-facing speakers. Much like the Z1 Compact before it, the Z3 Compact looks to be dust and water resistant. It will also sport a smaller screen size, just 4.6 inches with a display resolution of 1280 x 720.

In terms of hardware, the Z3 Compact will supposedly share the same processor as its bigger brother, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz chip. The RAM, however, will be retained at 2GB. There hasn't been much improvement compared to the Z1 Compact, which means that a Z2 Compact could be possible.

One of the features that Sony is probably more well-known for is its 20-megapixel camera outfitted on the Xperia Z1. It is then possible that the Z3 and the Z3 Compact will get the same treatment and will come wit the 20-megapixel snappers.

Seeing as how mobile photography has become a normal feature for smartphones, Sony could go with a more powerful camera but it is unlikely for the Z3 and its little brother.

As for the price, nothing is certain yet but the Z3 Compact could be seeing a $700 tag. This could be lower than suggested, depending on how much the Xperia Z3 will go for.
