'Star Wars' Han Solo Film Cast News: Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Talks for Roles

The cast of the untitled "Star Wars" Han Solo film is getting bigger as two actresses are being tapped to join the spin-off. Thandie Newton of "Westworld" and Phoebe Waller-Bridge of "Fleabag" are reportedly in talks for roles.

The casting news exclusively comes from Variety, who reports that Waller-Bridge's role will be for a CGI character while Newton's role has not been revealed. Both actresses are apparently in the midst of negotiations for parts in the upcoming film.

But Newton and Waller-Bridge are not the only strong females traveling to a galaxy far, far away. Emilia Clarke, who is known for playing Daenerys Targaryen on "Game of Thrones," is also onboard the standalone film in an unknown role. Alden Ehrenreich is set to portray a young Han Solo, a character originated by Harrison Ford. Han's friend and ally, Chewbacca, is likewise going to appear.

Donald Glover, known for his comedic chops for his work on "Atlanta" and "Community," has signed on to play a young Lando Calrissian. It was previously reported that Glover met with Billy Dee Williams, the actor who played the part in the original trilogy. And while Williams has admitted that he has always pictured himself as Lando, he knew he had to pass the baton at some point. Glover, who also goes by his musical alter ego Childish Gambino, is undoubtedly excited to play the part.

Rounding out the cast so far is Woody Harrelson, who has been tapped to play Han's mentor of sorts. In January, Harrelson revealed that his character will act as a guide to the young Han, but that does not mean that he will be purely good and noble. On the contrary, the actor has said that his character has some criminal tendencies.

The "Star Wars" Han Solo spin-off film is slated to premiere on May 25, 2018.
