'The Mentalist' Season 6 Spoilers: Creator, Stars Talk 'Closure' in Finale, CBS Renews Drama for Season 7

"The Mentalist" season six is quickly winding down to a close with just one episode left this Sunday entitled "Blue Bird."

In the days leading up to the season finale, "The Mentalist" creator Bruno Heller teased fans about what is ahead for the two beloved characters, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney). Just as CBS finally renewed the television series this week, Heller as well as Baker and Tunney promised that the characters will find "closure" at last.

Over the past few weeks, Lisbon has been growing closer to a new love interest in Agent Pike while Jane grew increasingly jealous. Furthermore, Lisbon decides to move to Washington, D.C. with Pike after Jane advises she do what makes her happy. However, according to a synopsis for "Blue Bird" this Sunday, Jane will "examine his feelings for [Lisbon] and decide how to proceed," leading fans to believe he chase after her.

As it turns out, now that Red John is gone, Jane is forced to finally acknowledge his feelings for Lisbon as well as the rest of his personal life, Heller explained.

"Red John was a convenience for Jane because it meant he didn't have to confront the rest of his life and what he's doing," the series creator told The Hollywood Reporter. "After [Red John] goes, for both Lisbon and Jane, there is a palpable sense of, 'What now? Do I really want to continue doing the same thing?'"

Heller added, "It left the two of them without an excuse to decide where that relationship was going. They had always been able to keep it separate. Those questions start bubbling up and the rest of the season was the resolution of those questions."

Furthermore, Tunney said that "The Mentalist" season six viewers "can expect closure," according to THR. While Baker agreed with his co-star, the actor said added that the finale "will by and large give the audience closure, but I suspect it will leave them craving more."

"The Mentalist" airs on CBS Sunday at 10 p.m. EST.
