'True Blood' Stars Shed Goodbye Tears Amid Final Season Premiere

"True Blood" entered its seventh and final season on HBO Sunday night, and the cast and crew are already bid their tearful farewells.

While the season premiere saw tears from the series' main character Sookie Stackhouse, Anna Paquin who portrays Sookie revealed that she shed real tears upon reading the final script.

"It kind of snuck up on me," the actress told People.com at the premiere of "True Blood" season seven at Los Angeles' Chinese Theater.

Paquin went on to explain that she and co-stars including her real-life husband Stephen Moyer and Sam Trammel had worked 15-hour days during the final script run-through, adding to the emotions running high. Carrie Preston, who portrays Arlene Fowler on "True Blood," echoed Paquin's sentiments.

"Once Anna started crying, I was done. Forget it," said the actress. "When I see her break down, when we're acting together in in life, I just go too."

Further confirming the tears on set, Lauren Bowles, who portrays waitress Holly Cleary, was also the victim of high emotions during the final season of "True Blood."

"Anna and I, we were probably the worst," she told People. "It was basically like a bunch of 12-year-old girls in a 'Fault in Our Stars' screening. I kid you not. I was not expecting to be so verklempt- and it was an ugly cry!"

Kristin Bauer van Straten was also among the emotional actors, despite her character Pam De Beaufort's tough-as-nails exterior. Nevertheless, Joe Manganiello maintained that, while he did not cry, he felt pangs of regret. The actor portrays Alcide, a werewolf on the hit HBO series, which takes place in the fictional Louisiana town of Bon Temps.

"This past weekend I actually went to New Orleans for the first time," he said. "It was a full moon on Friday the 13th … and somewhere it hit me when I looked up at the moon in Louisiana. It just hit me that I'm going to be saying goodbye to this character forever. I started feeling it in my chest."

"True Blood" season seven airs on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m. EST.
