Why Is Christina Yang Leaving Grey's Anatomy? Season 10 Finale Sees Sandra Oh Leave

With the Grey's Anatomy Season 10 finale taking place on Thursday, many fans are wondering why Christina Yang is leaving grey's Anatomy after a decade on the show?

Actress Sandra Oh announced her decision to leave the show a while back, and even though some have tried to suggest that the show was looking to make an exit for her character, Oh has confirmed that it was her decision to leave and that she was ready for something new.

The 42-year-old actress previously commented on her departure from the role that has made her a household name: "Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go," said Oh to The Hollywood Reporter.

She added, "It's such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. (Cristina) wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go."

Actor Kevin McKidd, who plays Yang's ex-husband, and whose life may be changed forever when his former TV wife will leave the series, has said, "I'm just really sad about it. We're having a great time during this last season, and Sandra is in great form. It's going to feel like a huge hole in this show. No one can fill her shoes. I wish her all the best. She's ready for the next phase in her life. She's always going to be my friend. She's one of my best friends. I feel tearful talking about it. It reminds me of how great that chemistry is."

Meanwhile, following Oh's departure fans can look forward to what is looking like a dramatic Season 11, packed with many of the regular cast members, who have recently signed new contracts to remain on the show.

There were many rumors claiming that many other cast members might be departing Grey's Anatomy for Season 11, but on the whole many of those concerns have been laid to rest, with various big cast members signing new contracts which guarantee them on the show for the next year or two.

For Grey's Anatomy Season 11, fans will be delighted to know that Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) and Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) have signed contracts assuring viewers that their characters will stay on for at least two more years.

Justin Chambers, Sara Remirez, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. have all also signed new contracts and so will all be appearing in Season 11. Those actors portray Alex Karev, Dr. Callie Torres, Dr. Miranda Bailey and Richard Webber, respectively.

Grey's Anatomy Season 11 will have a release date in fall 2014, according to recent reports. The next season of Grey's Anatomy will reportedly be split into two parts, with the first premiere date taking place in the fall and part 1 finale in December 2014. The Season 11 Part 2 release date will be in February 2015, rumors have claimed.
